Visit this iconic Hobart brewery and discover how the oldest beer in Australia is made.
Cascade rose from humble beginnings as a saw-milling operation founded by English settler Peter Degraves. The plans for Cascade Brewery were born during his stint in the old Hobart Gaol where he served time for an offence he had committed in England. His vision was to brew a "genuine beer that could not be excelled" and in December 1832 the first Cascade Brewery Co. beer was sold.
Today, Cascade continues to uphold Degraves' values, brewing beers that cannot be excelled behind Gothic sandstone facade of this iconic brewery. This tour steps back through the brewery’s interesting history then takes you behind the sandstone facade to view the workings of this unique brewery. Here your guide will explain the ingredients and craft behind the beers. You'll finish the tour with tastings; try beer or cider or both!
