You do not need to be a makeup artist to wear your makeup well. A professional makeup lesson gives you the techniques, the product knowledge, and the confidence to recreate the looks you love, on your own, at home, every day. From one-on-one personalised lessons to group masterclasses and specialty skill workshops, RedBalloon's makeup experiences are taught by working professionals across Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth

What types of makeup lessons are available?

RedBalloon has three main formats to choose from.

Personalised one-on-one lessons are tailored entirely to you. Your face, your skill level, your goals. A makeup artist works with you for 60–90 minutes, teaching techniques you can actually use in your daily routine.

Group makeup masterclasses are a social option, running for about two hours with a small group. They cover core techniques and are popular for hen's parties, birthdays, and catch-ups.

Specialty skill workshops go deeper on specific areas. Stage makeup, contouring, or seasonal looks. If you enjoy hands-on creative experiences, they pair well with art and craft classes or photography workshops for a full skills day.

What will you actually learn?

That depends on the session you choose, but most lessons cover foundation matching and application, contouring and highlighting, eye looks, and finishing techniques. Personalised lessons can focus on whatever you want to improve, whether that is perfecting your everyday base or learning how to do a full glam look.

Makeup lessons as a gift

A makeup lesson is a great gift for someone who loves beauty but has never had a proper lesson, or someone who wants to refresh their skills. It suits a wide age range and works for birthdays, Mother's Day, and hen's events. Gift vouchers are available with flexible redemption dates.

Do I need to bring my own makeup?

Usually no. Most lessons provide professional products to work with during the session. If you want to learn with your own products for easier recreation at home, let the instructor know when booking.

Are makeup lessons suitable for beginners?

Completely. Most lessons are designed with beginners in mind. The instructor starts from your current level and works from there.

Where are makeup lessons available?

RedBalloon currently has makeup lessons available in Sydney (Darlinghurst) and Melbourne (Little Collins Street), with select options in Perth.

Can you do a makeup lesson as a group?

Yes , group masterclasses are available in both Sydney and Melbourne and are a popular option for hen's parties and birthday celebrations. Check individual experiences for group size limits.
