A mecca for adventurers, the Larapinta Trail is one of Australia's most spectacular bushwalking and trekking experiences, taking you through the immense Aussie outback. Immerse yourself in this unforgettable landscape during a five day guided trek. Each day brings new places to explore and the opportunity to grow closer to this ancient and sacred land. Expect to traverse along the red rock slopes of the West MacDonnell Ranges, shadowed gorges, snaking riverbanks, open plains and towering mountains brimming with a rich diversity of animals and plants. Spectacular sights like the Ormiston Gorge will take your breath away at every corner. When night falls, you'll be camping under the stars, making the most of the seclusion and clear desert skies. The last morning sees you wake up before first light, ready to climb to the summit of the iconic Mt Sonder, the highest point in the Ranges. Although not an easy climb, the panoramas of Central Australia from the peak are well worth it.

Sample Itinerary

  • Day 1: Alice Springs to Ormiston Gorge. Walking distance: 23km - approximately nine hours
  • Day 2: Ormiston Gorge to Finke River. Walking distance: 25km - approximately eight hours
  • Days 3 & 4: Davenport River to Redbank Gorge. Walking distance: 26km over two days
  • Day 5: Mount Sonder to Alice Springs. Walking distance: 15km - approximately six hours

  • Please be ready at the meeting location on Day 1 at 7am

Restrictions

It is recommended you have an excellent level of fitness and are prepared to trek for multiple hours a day through a variety of terrain.

Guidelines

  • The minimum age is 16 years
  • Vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and pork-free diets can be catered for. Please bring your own staples (nuts, bars, snacks) if you require a diet differing from the above

Cancellation

  • Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Weather

Central Australia, which includes Alice Springs and the Uluru/Kata-Tjuta region, has a semi-arid climate. The area experiences Australia’s four typical seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring, with large variations in temperature from season to season. Please check the weather conditions in the days leading up to your trip.

Dress Code

When travelling in Central Australia temperatures can range from very high in the day, to below freezing at night. Please ensure you pack appropriate clothing. A full list of what to bring with you on the trip will be provided after booking.
