Get back to nature and spend two days exploring the beauty of the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park on foot. Covering 26km along a moderately graded track, you'll discover ancient sandstone cliffs, diverse vegetation and abundant birdlife as you dip into the rainforest, scramble over landslides and climb up rocky mountains. Carrying everything on your back, the hike commences at Leura, descending into the Jamison Valley, visiting Ruined Castle and Mount Solitary before returning to Scenic World in Katoomba. Experience true wilderness as you sleep in tents under the stars and wake up to the sounds of Mother Nature. Your guides will enlighten and educate you on the area and with all food, transport and gear provided, all you need to bring is your sense of adventure!

Session Length

  • This experience is two days in duration
  • Transfers to the Blue Mountains depart Sydney at 6:30am and return at approximately 5:30pm the following day

Restrictions

The track is multi-terrain; with rock paths, mountain climbs, rock scrambles, and shady bush tracks. While most of the path is well marked, some sections of the track are through rough, unmarked terrain. The Ruined Castle Overnighter is a moderate walk requiring a reasonable level of fitness. Day 2 is long (approximately 8 hours) with a steep ascent and descent of Mt Solitary. Guests are required to carry a full hiking backpack (approximately 10-14kg in weight) into Ruined Castle on day 1 and back to Katoomba on day 2. Compact daypacks will be included for the optional mountain climbs. Prior training combining bushwalking, steep hill climbs, high mobility while carrying a weighted pack of around 14-16kgs, or the functional gym equivalent should be undertaken at least two months in advance to the tours.

Guidelines

  • All tours require a moderate to high level of fitness and a degree of mental stamina
  • Due to the physical activity involved, all guests 69 years of age or over will require a medical clearance from a health professional
  • Guests must inform the provider of any medical conditions that may affect you during the trek. Consult your GP before your tour if you have any pre-existing medical conditions which may affect you

Cancellation

Once this experience has been confirmed, changes are at the discretion of the experience provider and arranged directly with them according to this policy:

  • The provider reserves the right to cancel any trip, due to weather conditions, low guest numbers or other circumstance out of its control. If a trip is cancelled you will be offered to reschedule. The provider will not responsible for reimbursement of cost of flights, accommodation, hire car, meals or any other incidental costs which are or may be incurred in relation to the cancelled trip

Numbers on the Day

Each tour requires a minimum of two guests and has a maximum of eight guests.

Freeland Hiking Co. reserves the right to cancel any trip, due to weather conditions, low guest numbers or other circumstance out of its control. If a trip is cancelled a full refund will be provided for the trip cost, however, Freeland Hiking Co. will not responsible for reimbursement of the cost of flights, accommodation, hire car, meals or any other incidental costs which are or may be incurred in relation to the cancelled trip.
