Discover the landscapes that evoke the lifestyle of Queensland's remote and rugged North West. This five day guided hike will have you travelling through some of Australia's largest cattle stations, exploring gorges, enjoying lunch by a waterhole and retiring to glamping accomodation each night.
This gently challenging five day experience in Queensland's remote outback will refresh and calm your mind. Each day you will hike a new trail and return to The Stock Camp, nestled beside a beautiful waterhole, where you will be spoilt with sundown drinks and canapés. The hike also includes an overnight visit to Lawn Hill Gorge and Adels Grove.
Day 1: The adventure begins with a vehicle transfer from Mount Isa to your exclusive trekking area where you'll travel through some of Australia's largest cattle stations and let your local guide give you an insight into the life of a stockman. Stop for a picnic lunch and sightseeing as you cross the water shed of The Lake Eyre Basin into the Gulf of Carpentaria river catchments. Finish the day at The Stock Camp and settle into your glamorously appointed twin share bell tents. Enjoy some time to relax and explore the nearby waterhole before you are treated to sunset drinks at the old homestead site. Return to the camp for a delicious dinner under the stars.
Day 2: (11km walk, moderate, + 4km afternoon gorge walk) Rise and shine to hike the Pinnacle Trail, trekking across the sparse spinfex hills, and be amazed by the shear expanse and never ending views. This trail fully captures the remote and rugged landscape. After lunch, take a refreshing afternoon walk into the nearby gorge to sit and relax with a cold drink and enjoy the abundant birdlife.
Day 3: (12km walk , moderate) Hike along the base of the escarpment and rocky outcrops to Rockhole. Here you'll enjoy a lovely long lunch by the waterhole featuring gourmet food, cold wine and great conversation. Afterwards, you'll jump in the car and be driven to Border Waterhole to explore the untouched beauty of the ancient landscape. The evening concludes back at the camp where you'll be treated to dinner around the safari-styled table.
Day 4: Travel 140km by vehicle to Adels Grove and Lawn Hill Gorge, an iconic location in the vast expanse of North West Queensland. Once here, settle into The Grove campground (tents and sleeping mats provided) and enjoy a picnic lunch by the spectacular Lawn Hill Creek before visiting the gorge with options of hiking, canoeing or taking the solar boat to Indarri Falls. Evening drinks and dinner will be served on the deck at Adels Grove.
Day 5: Wake up to breakfast on the deck before you depart for the return trip to Mt Isa. Enjoy a scenic drive through the ever-changing landscape and take some time to reflect on your experience. You will arrive back in Mt Isa for a late lunch and be there in time to catch the evening flight back to Brisbane, or choose to stay the night.

The weather is predictable in North West Queensland and that makes planning for the hike very easy. The hiking season, from April to September, boasts temperatures of mild (14’C to 34’C) clear sunny days and crisp night conditions, perfect for stargazing. There is a very low risk of rain at this time of year.
Your safety is priority, your guides will always carry a satellite phone and two-way radio in case of an emergency. A Royal Flying Doctor registered airstrip is located 5km from the Stock Camp. Both guides hold current First Aid Certification and are experienced in the protocols for remote evacuation if an incident was to occur. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.
