The Yarra Valley is without doubt one of Australia's premier wine producing regions and travelling through there enroute to the Healesville Sanctuary certainly sets the tone for the day. The facilities at the Sanctuary are world class and provide a wonderful environment for the animals, many of whom are recovering from road accidents and illness. Exhibits and walkways are constantly being upgraded and improved so the visitor experience is always changing. The iconic animals, koalas, kangaroos, platypus, parrots, birds of prey and reptiles can all be seen up close during your visit. Early afternoon, you'll adjourn to Yering Station, the site of Victoria's first vineyard in 1838. Since its purchase by the Rathbone family in 1996, there have been major works undertaken and it's one of the standout vineyards in the Valley.

Your a la carte lunch will be enjoyed in the Wine Bar Restaurant that affords glorious views across famland to the Great Dividing Range. Your post-lunch tasting of estate and reserve wines will be conducted in the original winery (circa 1859) that's been beautifully restored and includes local produce. Mid-afternoon, travel through to the northern reaches of the Valley to the De Bortoli Winery at Dixons Creek. With more than 500 acres under vine, they are the largest and most diverse producer in the Valley. You'll enjoy a selection of their estate wines that will be matched to an exquisite selection of cheeses, both local and imported.
