Sail onboard a 62 foot maxi ocean racer in a twilight race on the Derwent River. Helsal IV is an ex Sydney to Hobart competitor and her expert crew will ensure that you are able to participate in crewing the yacht to the extent that you desire. Take a turn on the winches or sit back and relax.

This experience is suitable even for novices! Experience the thrill of sailing in a race whether you wish to take part in the action or just relax! The yacht, Helsal IV is an ex Sydney to Hobart competitor. Be a part of the crew (as active as you want to be) in a real yacht race onboard a luxurious racing yacht. Twilight yacht races on the Derwent River are a magnificent tradition in Hobart; be a part of it and get your heart racing too.

Session Length

  • The race will take approximately 2 hours
  • Helsal IV leaves King’s Pier Marina at 5pm (please be there at 4.50pm) and returns at approximately 8:30pm
  • This experience only takes place in summer months


  • There is no wheelchair access and participants need to be reasonably mobile
  • Minimum age is 10 years old


Once this experience has been confirmed, changes are at the discretion of the experience provider and arranged directly with them according to their policy.

Numbers on the Day

There is a highly qualified skipper and 5 experienced crew, and can take from 1 to 10 passengers.


The race may be cancelled in extreme weather conditions

Dress Code

Wear shoes with reasonable grip and a jacket for the breeze and sea spray.
