Do you enjoy the great outdoors? Then try your hand at a half day sea kayak journey. You'll be surrounded by adventure and be able to observe Melbourne city in your kayak from a completely different point of view. Be prepared for salt spray, rolling water and seabirds on this half day adventure!
This tour is a fun sampler of sea kayaking, departing St Kilda. St Kilda is a lively coastal area of Melbourne, rich in maritime history and also well known as an entertainment playground. Your kayak experience begins with a short brief. You are then kitted up with a PFD, spray deck, paddle jacket, thermals and a paddle before the all-important safety briefing including a dry capsize drill. Once you have done a few warm up stretches, you will be paired up into paddling partners. Most sea kayaks are double sea kayaks, with a couple of single kayaks available for the more experienced paddlers in the group. After going through some basic strokes for 10 minutes, you'll set out on the adventure, paddling as a group. Depending on the wind direction, the group will either paddle towards Port Melbourne or Elwood. You will hear people playing drums, you will see yachts, kiteboards, and views across the bay to Williamstown, Port Melbourne and Melbourne City. You may even see birdlife such as penguins, swans and pelicans along the St Kilda break water!
Snacks (fruit) and drinks are provided on the beach at either Middle Park or Elwood. When the group returns to the start, the gear is packed away and you can change into some warm clothes. After a couple of hours kayaking, you may have worked up a thirst. There is plenty of opportunity at the conclusion of the kayak tour to visit one of the many bars in the St Kilda area and also listen to some music.
This tour operates with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 12 participants.
In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider.
Bring bathers, thermal top or 'rashy', water bottle, wet suit boots, old runners or sandal/thongs. Spray jacket, thermal top, PFD and spray deck are supplied.
You will need to sign an indemnity form and medical form before commencing the trip. Dry bags are supplied for camera equipment and mobile phones. All staff are qualified and have a First Aid certificate and at least 5 years experience.
