Become one step closer to reaping the rewards of having a pilot licence after completing three training flights in a light aircraft. With classroom briefings, pre-flight inspections and over two hours of dual-instruction, you'll become more than confident to tackle the world of flying.

Your experience begins with a classroom briefing on the functions of the aircraft's controls, followed by a pre-flight inspection on your training aircraft. As you take a seat inside, your instructor will talk you through the start up, taxiing and take-off procedures, before you lift off into your first flying lesson. During the 30 minute flight, you'll feel all the sensations of flying an aircraft, and soar up to an exhilarating 2000-3000ft. Following the flight, there will be an opportunity for you to record your flight in your personal pilot logbook and you will be given an aviation textbook to read prior to your next adventure in the sky. Your second and third flights will follow a similar format with a pre-flight briefing and inspection followed by a 60 minute flight. You will have the benefit of your own pilot headset and logbook, which are part of the essential tools required to becoming a pilot.

Please note: Due to the popularity of this experience, weekend appointments book well in advance. If you have a weekend date in mind please give advance notice.

Important information

Session Length

Allow 2-3 sessions to complete your training package. Your first lesson includes 30 minute flying time, followed by 2 x 60 minute flights
Please book at least eight weeks in advance for weekend sessions

Restrictions

Due to COVID 19 participants are requested to attend alone if possible, if someone needs to accompany them please limit to one person.

Guidelines

Minimum age is 15 years old
Weight restrictions and surcharges apply if you weigh 100kg or more - please contact RedBalloon to check if you have any concerns as alternative arrangements can be made
To get the most out of your experience, it is best to stagger your private flying lessons over 2-3 weeks

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

The price quoted is for one person. You will be one-on-one with your instructor during your trial flight.

Weather

Flying may be cancelled in certain weather conditions, which would make the flight uncomfortable for a novice. Please call the flying school if in any doubt. Any cancelled flights will be rescheduled for a later date.

Dress Code

Comfortable clothing and footwear is required to enable you to climb in and out of aircraft. High heels are not recommended.

Instructors are approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and are members of the Aviation Safety Foundation of Australia.

Fantastic 30 min flight around Launceston.

The friendly instructor was great. From the initial briefing to the completion of the flight the experience was fun, relaxed, informative and just the right amount of a challenge! I was able to take the controls for the majority of the flight (take off, level flight and landing) under the expert and relaxed instructions from the instructor. I was excited before the flight but it was so much more fun than I was expecting. The views of Launceston from the relatively low level flight were unique and awesome. 5 stars!
