Ferry and Bike Hire in Rottnest Island - Full Day

Highlights

  • Discover beautiful bays across island coastline
  • Visit northern beaches with afternoon conditions
  • Pack essentials for your island adventure day

Explore stunning island bays with ideal swimming spots, coastal views and essential tips for enjoying your adventure prepared.

  • Return ferry transfers to Rottnest Island

  • Bike hire with helmet and security lock

Spend the day exploring the stunning bays and natural beauty of this island paradise, with each location offering a unique coastal experience. During summer, the southern bays provide protection from the prevailing easterly winds in the mornings, creating ideal conditions for swimming, relaxing and enjoying the crystal clear waters.

In the afternoon, the famous Fremantle Doctor arrives from the south west, making northern bays such as The Basin, Parakeet Bay and Little Armstrong Bay some of the best spots to visit. With no food or drinking water available outside the Thomson Bay and Geordie Bay settlement areas, it’s important to come prepared for your adventure.

Pack essential supplies including drinking water, lunch, sunscreen, bathers, a towel and your camera. Whether you’re soaking up the sun, exploring the coastline or capturing unforgettable views, this island escape offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy Western Australia’s natural beauty at your own pace.

Missed our boat

Ed 27 November 2023

Received a confirmation email with no information about where to park and no mention about picking up some tickets or where. We did the queue 15 minutes before the departure of the ferry and when we were about to get in, we were asked for the ferry tickets. We showed our confirmation letter but the women who was checking the tickets looked at us like not knowing what we were talking about (Redballoon or the confirmation email). Told us not to worry, to go to the ticket office and to come back that we had time to jump on the 9:30am boat, but when we got the we weren't allowed to jump on the boat and luckily we go in the next one. We missed doing few things to do in the island due to lack of time. Communication on the confirmation email missed important information for passangers and the Ferry crew seemed not interested in people buying their tickets from Redballoon. The island is beautiful, the beaches are espectacular. Thought the food in restaurants was going to be expensive but was reasonable. Saw lots of Quokkas. Recommendation: buy a net for the flies.

Gerry was on time and very efficient. Loved the ride around Rottnest. Took our own snorkeling gear and went in at Parrakeet Bay. Would recommend to anyone. Loved it.

Great day out!

This is a fantastic way to see the Island! The ferry ride and bike collection process was smooth and staff were lovely. We cycled between snorkel spots all morning and spent the arvo around the settlement and museum. Overall great value for money!

Rottnest island is truly beautiful

Rottnest island is a wonderful day trip with beautiful scenery and in winter not large crowds . However If riding a push bike on the island my advice is to hire an E bike - so many hills for the less bike fit .

Amazing Rottnest Trip

Veronica 24 April 2022

We booked the 7:30am-4:30pm Rottnest Express Ferry plus Bike Hire, and it was great! The Ferry was very good, crew was great, the ferry left/arrived on time as well. The trip took 30 minutes to get to Rottnest, and there’s a snack bar on the ferry. The bike hire was also very good and would definitely recommend hiring a bike for Rottnest, you will need it! The Rottnest Express bikes were in reasonable condition, helmets and locks were provided which was great. However I do suggest picking a good helmet that fits because I was fiddling with mine all day. The bikes come straight off the ferry, so when you get off the boat just wait there for your bike. Overall it was an amazing experience and one of the best days of my life! Booking through RedBalloon was so easy, however there was a little bit of confusion with selecting times. The experience you choose will have set times, but RedBalloon asks you to select a preferred time for the voucher, by default (?), I would disregard this and just put in the time that is stated on the voucher by the company.

Hi Veronica, thanks so much for your feedback. I am thrilled to hear you enjoyed your day on Rottnest Island - what a fantastic way to see the island. I hope you got a selfie with a quokka! Ready to book your next RedBalloon experience? Thanks, Elise

Disorganised but okay

Fi 26 March 2022

I’m not one to write reviews but thought this deserved one to assist others. Negatives: Communication between red balloon and Rottnest express is poor. Emails from redballoon say to contact Rottnest express for any queries or changes - when contacting Rottnest express they say they can’t do anything and it’s all on red balloon. Red balloon is hard to contact via phone, long waiting line which cut out. Redballoon advertising says return ferry is at 6:30, and when receiving our tickets in the morning we had been booked on the 4:30 return - lady behind reception was rude but did give us a return ticket for 5:30 instead. When getting to Rottnest to collect bikes we were suppose to have a confirmation word document of our bike hire which we never received from either party, the man ended up just giving us our bikes in a huff. Bikes are average, clunky and a bit rusty but did the job. It is also a massive day of riding if you want to see the whole island. Positives: is a lovely island, gorgeous on a good weather day. Onboard crew were nice. Would recommend an overnight in the glamping tents they looked awesome. If only there for the day stick to the northern side of the island. Pinky’s beach club is fun. Would recommend booking direct with Rottnest express if you want to go with them to avoid above stated issues. Otherwise was a good day on the island despite the mess around and miscommunications.

Treasured Island getaway

Mark 12 January 2022

We were given tickets to Rottnest by our son for Christmas. Arriving at 9am, we rode our hire bikes straight to the bakery and had a delicious breakfast. Then we headed out to little salmon Bay for a dip. What a beautiful spot with crystal clear water and white sand. We then rode to Geordie Bay for lunch and another swim, watching the children jump off the jetty. Finally, we rode the Rottnest Hotel and had drinks by the water. A beautiful day and a reminder to us of how blessed we are to live in WA.

Amazing experience

Laura 11 January 2021

What a wonderful day hired bikes and rode the Green course on map. Snorkelled at Parker Point crystal clear water was a lovely temperature so many fish to see. Food and drinks were yummy and reasonably priced. Definitely coming back again
