For over 30 years the Australian String Quartet has created unforgettable string quartet performances for national and international audiences. Dedicated to musical excellence with a distinctly Australian flavour, its purpose is to create experiences that connect people to string quartet music. The Australian String Quartet's 2020 program consists of three compelling concerts. You will be able to choose one of the following performances:

BEETHOVEN DESSNER - Sunday 9 February 2020, 2pm, Gandel Hall, National Gallery of Australia

  • Beethoven, String Quartet in A major op 18 no 5
  • Bryce Dessner, Aheym
  • Beethoven, String Quartet in F major op 18 no 1
  • Join us as we celebrate Beethoven with this special concert. We perform two of the great composer's joyous opus 18 string quartets, along with a blistering contemporary work by The National's Bryce Dessner. (120 minutes, including 20 minute interval)

INTIMATE LETTERS - Sunday 19 July 2020, 2pm, Gandel Hall, National Gallery of Australia

  • Mozart, String Quartet in C major K 465 Dissonance
  • Ross Edwards, String Quartet no 4 (World Premiere)*
  • Janacek, String Quartet no 2 Intimate Letters
  • Mozart's musical contrasts, the intense emotions of Janacek's Intimate Letters and a new work by Australia's renowned, Ross Edwards. (120 minutes, including 20 minute interval)

LATE BEETHOVEN - Sunday 11 October 2020, 2pm, Gandel Hall, National Gallery of Australia

  • Dutilleux, Ainsi la Nuit
  • Beethoven, String Quartet in C sharp minor op 131
  • A musical journey spanning 150 years. Journey with the ASQ across two seven-movement masterpieces by Beethoven and Henri Dutilleux. (70 minutes, no interval)

The concert is from 70 to 120 minutes.
