Whether you just want to know how it's done, feel the urge to dabble or are seriously considering DJ'ing as a career path, there are a few fundamental things about mixing which remain relevant across all musical genres and formats. During this DJ Mixing Taster Course you will learn these things exclusively on vinyl records. Mixing was invented on vinyl and you can only truly understand the basics behind DJ'ing by using it; without digital readouts to distract you or SYNC to help you! Knowledge and skills gained while mixing vinyl can then be easily transferred to digital media.

You will spend your two-hour one-on-one DJ lesson in a real, live record store, surrounded by both classics and the latest releases. This is your chance to put your hands on real records and mix them, all the while gaining insights into where and how mixing came about. You will learn what BPM is and why certain plugs must go certain ways. You will learn about what the industry calls train-wrecks, crowd pleasers and much, much more! Your teacher is a working Sydney DJ with years of experience. Topics covered · Tools of the trade - intro to turntables & DJ mixer · P.A. set-up – signal flow – input options – troubleshooting · Handling a record – cueing - basic beat matching techniques & exercises · Beat mixing transitions – using crossfader, headphones & monitor · Intro to music structure – bars/BpM/intro/outro – identify cue points

Important information

Session Length

This experience is available... Before hours: Monday - Sunday, 7am - 11am. After hours Monday - Sunday, 5pm - 9pm. This excluded public holidays. Bookings are essential and are subject to availability. The duration of your DJ mixing course is two hours.

Restrictions

Classes are before (9am-11am) or after (5pm-7pm) shop hours only. We can do slightly earlier or later but we can't do in the day because we can't do the lessons when the store is open to the public.

Guidelines

DJ mixing courses are suitable for anyone. If you are keen to learn, we will teach you! While introductory sessions are available, intermediate and advanced classes are available also. Please advise of your preference when activating your voucher. Please note that we don’t promise that you’ll be able to mix after this 2 hour session – anyone who does, is lying. We do promise that you’ll have a great time, get to give it a red hot go and leave our store with knowledge that will enable you to enjoy more deeply, or actually pursue, DJing out in club land.

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
Should you fail to show up for your session, a $110 rebooking fee will be incurred. Gotta feed the DJ :)

Numbers on the Day

The price quoted is for one person. You will be one-on-one with your tutor during your lesson.

Dress Code

There is no dress code. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

Other Info

Sessions will take place on a pair of professional direct drive turntables, a RANE TTM56s Mixer and 2 x 700 Watt JBL speakers. All tutors are working DJs with extensive industry knowledge and experience.

Had a great few hours here. Micha is an excellent teacher, he explained how all of the equipment works, we picked out some tunes and went through a few different mixing techniques. Really informative, learned a lot but most importantly heaps of fun and will definitely be going back for more.

Mika was friendly, keen and genuinely interested in helping me learn a little bit about the art of mixing. He talked me through the technical aspects and explained things clearly. It was a good environment to get my hands on the equipment and have a bit of a play. Mika clearly loves mixing and showed me some really cool stuff, including his recently released 7 inch record.
