Turns out you don’t need much on a tiny home getaway. Whether you’re heading off solo for some quiet time or getting close with someone worth squishing up against, pack the right things and you’ll have everything you need for a memorable story off-grid.
Make sure to bring plenty to eat and drink. Your own private oasis means no distractions, but also probably means not a whole lot of eating out options either. Most tiny homes on RedBalloon have a cute kitchenette with a microwave, kettle and bar fridge. Minute noodles, microwave meals and dry snacks do the job. Throw in your favourite wine, a reusable water bottle, and yes, marshmallows. Non-negotiable.
Make sure you pack activewear and a pair of sneakers. Hikes, coastal walks and other exercises go hand in hand with a tiny home cabin, whether it’s on a farm by the sea or tucked away deep in a forest. And as cute as the cabin may be, you’ll definitely want to get some fresh air and explore the land, because you never know what may be waiting around the corner.
Comfy layers are a must. It’s a mini getaway, not a glamping photoshoot (unless you want it to be), so comfort wins every time. Most tiny homes are out in the country or by the ocean where temperatures drop and open spaces bring strong breezes, so cardigans, jumpers and anything you can layer up will keep you nice and warm. Even during the day, it can get a little cold when you’re out, so a jacket is your best friend. Wear it, tie it around your hips, whatever works. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Skip the laptop and reach for board games and a book instead. The whole point of going off-grid is to enjoy a digital detox weekend, so keep yourself entertained by going back to basics. Think a good book by the firepit or a few rounds of cards on the bed. No technology also means no troubleshooting dramas, and more time to connect.
An endless supply of curiosity and zero expectations will get you far in a tiny cabin, so make sure to bring that with you. Tiny homes have a way of stripping back the noise, which makes it easier to actually look around. Venture further out of the property, take those questionable trails and chat to the locals. It might just lead you to your favourite part of the trip.
Your next great story starts with finding the right spot. With over 100 tiny homes around the country, we‘ve done the hard part for you.
