Step into the winemakers laboratory and become 'winemaker' for a day. This interactive experience is fascinating and fun, as you combine distinctive flavours and textures to create your very own unique blend that you can take home with you!

What's included?

1.5 hour wine blending class
750 ml sample to take home

The Blending Bench is a hands on, interactive experience where you play winemaker, focusing on this winery's flagship Shiraz 'The Dead Arm'. A palette of Shiraz wine parcels, each with distinctive flavours and textures, are melded in search of balance, fullness and finesse. The physical work – picking, crushing, fermenting, foot treading, basket pressing and barrel ageing - is all done for you, and you get to create a wine that is truly unique. You then bottle, name and label a 750ml sample to take home and show off to your friends! Afterwards explore the grounds of the renowned d'Arenberg Winery, taking in the rolling hills of McLaren Vale.

To be included, a RedBalloon team member personally tests the experience to make sure it genuinely delivers. I recently visited D’Arenberg to experience the Blending Bench and it absolutely lived up to expectations. From the beginning, the team made everything feel relaxed and welcoming. The host was exceptionally knowledgeable (without being overly technical), and did a great job of keeping the session engaging and fun. The hands-on blending component is a real highlight - being able to experiment and create your own wine gives the experience a unique, personal touch you don’t get from a standard tasting. Everything felt well organised and true to what’s advertised. The wines themselves are excellent, and the setting at D’Arenberg Cube adds to the overall experience - it’s a pretty iconic spot and makes the whole thing feel a bit more special. It’s one that I can personally recommend, and I’d definitely consider it as a gift as well. It suits a wide range of people and strikes a really nice balance between being educational, interactive and great fun.

I really enjoyed this class. I learnt new things and it was impossible to make a bad wine ! The hardest part was coming up with a name 🤷‍♀️ I did this with a friend but would also be very nice to do with a large group or a partner for something different. Plenty to see, and the art exhibition was amazing which we were fortunate to get free access to due to going on the blending experience a must see !
