Witness the incredible sight of humpback whales breaching off the coast of Newcastle. Your tour will begin at Dock C - Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, where you'll head offshore on an awesome adventure boat. Enjoy the chance to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures, with dolphins and seals also regularly spotted. Marvel at the beautiful views of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie coastline from the water as you listen to fascinating commentary about these spectacular marine mammals. The tour also features authentic interpretation around the history of the port, the city, local geology and Aboriginal heritage.

Available between the months of May and November

Restrictions

Not suitable for children aged under three years. Not recommended for travellers with back or heart problems, who are pregnant or who have other serious medical conditions

Guidelines

This experience is available annually between the months of May and November
On the day, make sure to bring along some warm clothing. Our crew will also provide you with a premium weatherproof jacket should you wish to keep you comfortable while on board
If whales are not spotted on a designated whale watch tour between the months of May to November, each passenger will be entitled to a ‘standby ticket’ enabling them to return on another subsequent tour date, this ticket is subject to availability and must be used within the same whale watching season

Cancellation

Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

This tour runs with a maximum of 20 people.

Weather

The tour will be rescheduled or cancelled in the unlikely event of poor weather.

Dress Code

Guests should wear warm clothing and enclosed shoes.

My experience with Red Balloon and the whale watching tour was exceptional. Booking was seamless and communication was excellent leading up to the experience. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly and really informative. Seeing whales up close and breaching was unforgettable, such a thrilling experience! 10/10 would recommend.

The crew were helpful & friendly right from the start. It was very cold. It took a while, buit they managed to find us a mother & baby to watch for a while. I would choose to go with these guys again.

Wow! What a day. The whales kept coming. The dolphins were playing. It has been a long-time dream of mine to be this close to whales. We were treated to 2 'spy hops' which apparently are quite rare. A magical experience.
