Mediterranean Cooking Class

Alyce 27 March 2022

I had an absolutely fantastic time learning, eating and drinking. This is definitely a course I would recommend to anyone. What you learn in the course can be replicated at home and you don’t need any fancy equipment. The good you make is delicious!

Mel made our day light hearted and relaxing

Jo 26 July 2020

We couldn’t believe that we made such scrumptious meals and were able to repeat it all the next day at home. A must do and a great gift! My son and I did this together!

A pleasant ’Watch and Eat’ cooking presentation.

Mel 20 October 2019

Timeframe - The session was scheduled to start at 11 and finish at 2pm. We took 30mins to go through the intro and safety. By 1.45pm we hadn’t started plating mains and we were still working through the brownie prep. It was supposed to finish at 2pm. The session was only starting to wrap up at 3pm, an hour over the scheduled time which is not ideal. Either fit to the time or set a longer expectation. I was the first to leave at 3pm as I really had to get going. Preparation - Some of the planned recipe components couldn’t be done as ingredients are available eg tahini, chick peas were pretty key to the menu item planned. Skills - entree we learnt how to shape bread and decorate but were not involved in the prep/proving of dough nor the baking, and we also weren’t involved in making the dips or truffle butter or any other component on the platter. Main - we learnt how to score and salt pork belly and just watched other components and weren’t really involved. Two groups cut some onions and pears but that’s all. The presenter showed us a couple of ways to cut the pork crackle to get the best of it. Dessert - making the decorative bark was fun and easy but we didn’t really get involved with the other elements of the brownie. A couple of the attendees whisked egg and sugar but not much else. More of a focus on decorating. The term ‘school’ is a bit of a stretch. Presenter - The presenter was a really lovely guy, and a great personality for this experience. He was very engaging and warm, skilled and worked the room well. Venue - location, bar, facilities - all perfectly suited to the experience. Food - the food tasted lovely and don’t think any of us walked away hungry. The presenter was also very considerate of and was prepared to account for allergies. Pay as you consume beverages means you get what you pay for. Very reasonable beverage offering. Value - a good affordable experience to attend. Compared to other cooking schools I have attended this one scored quite low on the involvement scale and seemed more suited to somebody that was quite beginner and more interested in watching rather than getting involved. For a cooking school I expected more involvement and didn’t really learn much.

Fantastic For Foodies

Kelly 14 May 2018

It all came down to Chef Jan and her brilliant ability to make us "the master chefs of our own kitchen"! great time. I would only say I don't think I would like to be in a class any bigger than what it was, we had 9.

Fun night meeting new people, with great food

Heath 20 July 2017

Chef Jan was amazing and organised a fund night. Great trying new skills followed by great food. Highly recommend. One other person there is on her 5th session (different cuisines though). Repeat visitors always says a lot to us.

It wasn't mediterranean food and I wasn't a chef

Luisa 8 June 2017

The menu change from what we bought on Red Balloon. There wasn't creme brulee and we weren't able to cook much. The staff made almost all the food and we just made little bits. We do not think that the food was mediterranean as advertised on red balloon. We learnt how to make sauce for roast and a better way of roasting potatoes.

Good Fun, Great Advice and Tasty Food

Carl 7 May 2017

Mel has a great sense of humour making the class fun but also very informative. Catered for any cooking ability and offered very practical tips. The food looked and tasted great. You can get your hands dirty or just take in the tips but either way you felt part of the experience. Well worth the money and experience.
