★★★★★ ★★★★★ Recommended Great experience despite a couple of issues Corey 2 March 2025 Pros: From finally receiving the actual booking confirmation from Red Balloon (refer cons below) through to arriving back at the wharf at the end of the day (other than the transport up to the zoo entrance issue - again refer to the cons below) this was a lovely day and experience. Redemption of the booking confirmation into tickets was seamless. The cruise there and back was so nice with stunning harbour views, entry into the zoo was easy & we had a great day out overall. Cons: the cable car mentioned in one of the much older reviews has not been operating for a couple of years apparently. There is an upgraded one coming in the future according to the zoo relations people at the ferry terminal. Consequently the two options to get up to the zoo are a 10 min walk (which we happily did on the way home) but as we got to the zoo later than planned (due to hotel issues, not red balloon issues) we had to PAY an additional cost to catch the shuttle bus up the hill to the zoo entrance which was pretty disappointing. We were under the impression that all transport & entry costs from the wharf into the zoo were covered & the description doesn’t mention a possible transport cost at all. Also when I initially booked the tickets online there was a system glitch and the booking never went through. Extremely fortunately for us I had actually noticed that I never received a confirmation email, and also fortunately it was a Thursday night and I was able to resolve the issue with Red Balloon (special shoutout to A.B. for her assistance) the next day. They managed to book it in manually for me after a couple of tries, however it did take some time, cutting into my very strict work hours. Would’ve been pretty major if we had arrived at the wharf on Sunday as per the instructions on the page & our belief that we were all booked in only to find our tickets weren’t waiting for us. Especially given Red Balloon aren’t available on the weekend. Make sure you receive your booking confirmation!! Taronga though was the main attraction. All the animals were out and the talks were all well-timed. Fantastic day out!
