Join this small group photography workshop and develop the all important creative eye! Street photography is a form of art photography that features the human condition within public places.

Spend a day learning the skills of a street Photographer! In this 4 hour workshop you will cover the following:

How to approach your subject
What equipment is best
Developing technique

Newtown is a vibrant suburb best known for its diversity of people and thriving street culture and art. A hub of activity, it has many characteristics perfect for street photography - people, cafes, vendors, street merchants, historical buildings and many unexpected surprises along the way!

You will begin the workshop at Café Newtown exploring the busy and colourful King Street as it comes to life. Explore the urban landscape that unfolds as markets set up, cafes open and people start to fill the streets. There are old antique shops and charming eclectic speciality stores plus many unique spaces heavy with street art as well as the local residents and their body art. Your adventure takes you through the historic streets and lanes in search of inspiration and creativity.

Break for lunch at one of the local establishments and debrief on the day so far. This is a great opportunity to exchange stories and ask as many questions as you like.

After lunch, your focus will be refining the mornings experience; your experienced tutor will fine tune your technique with one on one coaching.

By the end of this unique workshop, you will have photographed a charming visual story of one of Sydney’s most iconic suburbs and its community.

Session Length

The workshop starts at 8am and finishes at 12pm at Cafe Newtown, opposite Newtown Station
Available on selected Saturdays

Guidelines

Suitable for beginners, amateurs and intermediate photographers who have a basic knowledge of their camera.

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

Minimum 4 participants for the class, maximum of 10.

Weather

If it looks like there will be unbearable weather on the day, you'll be contacted early that morning to advise that the workshop will not operate. Otherwise, you should assume the workshop will operate as scheduled. In the event of cancellation, you can select an alternative workshop date.

Dress Code

Dress for the weather with loose comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear for walking.

A fantastic 5 hours packed with terrific input from 2 extremely experienced professional photographers, which included a lot of one-to-one direct and specific training. Whilst the course was focused on Street Photography, the teachers were more than happy to coach on all aspects of photography, and were very good at managing different levels of skillsets.

Gets you out of your 'photography comfort zone'. You meet great and interesting people along the way. Not only do you learn good angles and some techniques, you learn new ways to look at objects, scenes and people! Great teacher also!
