Sail the Derwent River on a luxury 62-foot maxi yacht, a veteran of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The three hour sail takes in one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world, with spectacular views of Hobart and Mt Wellington, as you enjoy tea and coffee, or purchase a glass of wine.

Participate in the sailing or sit back and enjoy the ride, this experience is suitable even for novices! Experience the thrill of sailing in a race whether you wish to take part in the action or just relax! The yacht, Helsal IV is an ex Sydney to Hobart competitor!

Important information

Session Length

The experience will take approximately 3 hours
Available 7 days a week
From April through to September from 10am - 1pm and from September through to April from 2pm - 5pm

Guidelines

There is no wheelchair access and participants need to be reasonably mobile
Children must be accompanied by an adult

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

There is a highly qualified skipper and experienced crew. These are not private charters and other passengers may also be on board.

Weather

In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider

Dress Code

Wear flat-soled shoes with reasonable grip and a jacket for the breeze and sea spray

Such a fantastic afternoon with Mark and his crew. The scones were probably the best in Tasmania and definitely live up to the hype! You could get as involved with sailing as you want and Mark, Grant, Jimmy and Lachy kept us entertained with stories and info about Hobart and sailing.

We had an amazing time. Everyone was given an opportunity to steer the yacht and to wander around as desired, although we mostly hid behind the weather shield due to the chilly conditions. It was great to experience the full tilt of the yacht as we tacked and jibed. A very experienced and entertaining crew, and great scones!

We enjoyed a fabulous morning cruising the Derwent with the Marks! The scones for morning tea were freshly made by the skippers mum - yum! Even got to steer the boat under great tutorial.

We enjoyed a beautiful relaxing morning on the Derwent & picked up some good winds in the last hour to cap our experience off. We saw Hobart from a beautiful angle. The crew Jamie and Jimmy were very friendly, informative and professional! M’tea of scones was a surprise and cheese platter & glass of wine to finish off our yachting experience. Highly recommend.

Mark & Jimmy gave us a memorable experience sailing the Derwent. Mark was very reassuring whenI told him I’d just watched the Titanic and was nervous! Jimmy was up and down those stairs all afternoon with great scones, cheese platters and other nibble things. Thank you again Mark for trusting our honesty when one of our vouchers seemed invalid (my fault - who’s to know difference between a zero and an “O”). A great experience all round.

We've been coming to Tassie ever since I was a baby and this was honestly one of the best things I've ever done. The team are amazing and great value for a chat on all things Tassie. You get a fantastic view of the city and amazing cheeses and bubbles. Highly recommend.

Mark and the crew provided us with a fantastic and relaxing afternoon out on the water. They were very friendly, informative and provided homemade and local food. We purchased wine and beer that was also Tasmanian - great to see them supporting other local businesses. We had the best time and have already recommended the experience to family and friends.
