Feast, snooze, and explore Melbourne Zoo after dark with this unforgettable Roar ’n’ Snore overnight camping experience for two, offering a rare chance to see the zoo come alive once the gates close to the public. Your adventure begins at 5.30pm, when you arrive at the zoo’s service entrance and are warmly welcomed by your camp hosts. After parking inside the zoo grounds, you’ll be escorted to your campsite set within the historic Elephant Exhibit, now thoughtfully transformed into a unique overnight stay for guests. Enjoy light refreshments on arrival, including a complimentary glass of sparkling wine or wine, as you settle in and take in the zoo's atmosphere at dusk.

As evening falls, the experience unfolds with a series of hosted walking tours, including a guided visit to Lion Gorge at dusk and a fascinating Night & Nocturnal walk, offering insight into animals that are most active after dark. Between adventures, you’ll return to the campsite to set up your private canvas tent before enjoying a classic Aussie BBQ dinner, followed later by a cosy late night supper. As the zoo quietens, prepare for a restful night surrounded by the sounds of wildlife. The next morning begins early with breakfast, followed by a guided Dawn Adventure walk, giving you a new perspective on the zoo as it wakes for the day. After checking out, you’re free to continue exploring Melbourne Zoo at your leisure, with full zoo admission included for the day. It’s a wonderfully memorable way to see the zoo from a completely different point of view, one that’s perfect for sharing and remembering long after the tents come down.

Session Length

This experience is available on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (subject to availability)
Start time is 5.30pm
Guests are free to spend the rest of the day in the zoo
Please note that the experience doesn't run in the colder winter months, from June to August

Guidelines

You will need to bring:

A sleeping bag and pillow
Wet weather gear and warm clothing
Toiletries
A torch and camera if you wish

Due to the high demand of reservations for this product, we recommend booking well in advance to secure your desired date.

Important things you need to know:

Minimum age is five years old. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult
Please don't wear strong perfume or aftershave
Enclosed shoes must be worn for all animal experiences
Prams and strollers cannot be taken into the off-limits areas
Weekends, school holidays and public holidays can be a busy time at the Zoo and parking is limited. Please allow sufficient time for parking and entering the Zoo.
You are welcome to bring your own alcohol (over 18s only)

Terms and conditions:

Zoos Victoria may choose to cancel specific encounters due to inclement weather, animal welfare or insufficient bookings. Whenever possible, guests will be notified in advance and dates re-scheduled, or full payment will be refunded
Due to unpredictable animal behaviour, experiences may vary
Participants may be asked to leave the enclosure at any time during the encounters at the discretion of zoo staff
No food or drink can be taken into experiences

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 14 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 14 days of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Weather

Roar 'n' Snore is an all weather program, however Melbourne Zoo may choose to cancel specific camp dates due to inclement weather or insufficient bookings. Whenever possible, guests will be notified in advance and dates rescheduled, or full payment will be refunded.

Loved this! The hosts Katie and Camilla were so lovely, and knowledgeable! I learnt so much. It was wonderful seeing the animals without massive crowds. The food was delicious and there was so much! Seeing a lot of the nocturnal activity was great, we spotted lots even elusive ones you rarely get to see. The sleeping accommodation was perfect. Highly recommend.

Good experience but a bit rushed.

Overall we had a good time but it was very rushed. A suggestion would be to allow people to come in around 3pm so they can relax a bit before rushing around for nibbles/walk/dinner/walk/supper/bed. Another suggestion would be to have a toilet and washroom on site. Walking during the night through the cafe area to use the public toilets was not the best. The guides were great.

Welcome drinks and nibbles was a great start to our tour. We had Mikey and Pete as our hosts, they both had a lot of knowledge about the animals and history of the zoo. We were lucky enough to see several different animals out at night. Food was good.

Amazing staff and a brilliant set of activities. This is an absolute must if you have an overnight to spare . Comfortable tents, good catering and a really informative tour of the zoo.. evening , night and next morning. Then you have the option of spending the whole day at the zoo at your leisure.
