This excellent course equips you with the essential practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to obtain your NSW Boat Licence. Led by an expert instructor, the training is delivered in a fun, hands-on format, ensuring an engaging and informative experience.

NSW Maritime Boat License (subject to license fee and applying with NSW Maritime)

Flying Fish Australia Pty. Ltd., ACN/ABN 34 098 757 656, and RTO Number 46416, is approved by NSW Maritime to provide practical boat training and/or knowledge testing for the NSW general boat driving licence and PWC driving licence.

Start your day with theory training in our waterside classroom, then head out onto Sydney Harbour for practical boat handling in our purpose-built RIBs. The course finishes with the NSW General Boat Licence Knowledge Test, required by NSW Maritime. Morning theory covers safety equipment, boat parts, onboard safety, craft types, weather, navigation, and boating rules. Afternoon practical training includes safety checks, low/high-speed handling, seamanship, rules in practice, and emergency drills like man overboard recovery. Courses are taught by qualified instructors in small groups. Based at Middle Harbour Yacht Club, with Sydney Harbour’s busy waterways as your training ground, this course provides the ideal environment to gain skills and confidence.

Session Length

One day course starts at 0830 am and finishes at 5 pm

Guidelines

The course is open to anyone aged 12 and upwards
If you’re 16 or older, you’re eligible for the NSW General Boat Licence.
If you’re aged 12 to 15, you can apply for a Restricted Boat Licence.
A basic level of fitness is required

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 14 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 14 days of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

A maximum of 6 people in each powerboat, plus the instructor.

Weather

This experience operates in rain or shine. You will be advised if it is to rough to head out onto the water.

Dress Code

Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, rash vest, board shorts, windproof jacket, non-slip boat/wet shoes, towel and a change of clothes. Bring extra layers if it's cold. Male and Female changing facilities are available on site.

Other Info

BYO lunch or money to visit the beach bar, cafe or restaurant.

A long day, but got my license

The day was unnecessarily long and it felt like the instructors knew about boating, but not about how to teach. The slow pace probably took away from the overall experience. That said, we all passed and now are eligible for a boat license.
