Mount Field is one of Tasmania’s oldest National Parks, and surely the prettiest. Only 1.5 hours from Hobart, this natural wonderland features lush temperate rainforest, moody alpine moorland and cascading waterfalls. It’s a place of serenity and great short walks – and there are plenty on the agenda.

The Three Falls Circuit takes us to iconic Russell Falls, where water pours over rock in three perfect tiers. We push on through dappled light and ferns glades to reach the peaceful Horseshoe Falls, before joining the Tall Trees Trail where towering Swamp Gums stretch over 80 metres into the sky. From here our keen walkers can continue to Lady Barron Falls to complete the loop.

Next up is Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where you’ll meet all kinds of native wildlife. Learn about Tasmania’s rare and precious fauna during an informative wildlife tour conducted by the expert staff at Bonorong. Our final stop is the summit of kunyani/Mount Wellington, standing proud behind Hobart at 1271 metres above sea level. If your eyes aren’t watering from the icy air, they will be from the sweeping views. See the entire city, surrounding mountains and Derwent river system sparkling at your feet.

waterfalls and wildlife

Lauren 4 May 2025

A little bit of everything. It was an enjoyable day, getting to see some amazing waterfalls around the mt Field area, and the animals put on a show for us too. Going to Bonorong Wildlife Park, and finding out about the rehabilitation works they do, not to mention feeding some roos. A small disappointment for Mt Wellington, due to circumstance outside of the control of the tour itself, yet still some pretty views and walking tracks

Mt Field, Mt Wellington and Bonorong Wildlife Park

Lindsay 20 April 2019

The tour guide was very experienced and knowledgeable of the area. This tour is a fantastic way to explore many of Tassie’s fabulous scenery. Value for money.

Just a Wonderful Day!

Mal 18 May 2018

A great day out made even better by our terrific guide Clint who provided an excellent and insightful commentary. He was able to provide a great balanced view on current Tassie topics. The views from Mt Wellington, the walks through the National Park at Mt Field were just fantastic. A great way to get orientated around Hobart. The trip to the wildlife sanctuary gave us a terrific understanding of the Tassiie Devil as well as the cute wombats and koalas. Just one note though that differs from the website,Clint does stop and a small town in the morning so you can buy your lunch and morning tea, this saves the last minute shop the night before!
