The Lanes and Arcades Tour is a unique introduction to Melbourne’s vibrant laneways culture. On this leisurely morning walk, discover the Melbourne that lives just beneath the surface, bubbling with creative activity and filled with fabulous cafes and local boutiques. Notice the historical buildings and the characters who made and make this the world's most liveable city. Not much time to shop, but you’ll know where to head to post tour and continue discovering hidden spots. See some of the city’s famous public art and learn a little of Melbourne’s fascinating history along the way. Indulge with tea/coffee and chocolate tasting, concluding with a delicious gourmet lunch and a glass of wine or beer. A perfect introduction to the ‘real Melbourne’ even locals miss!

Important information

  • The Lanes and Arcades tour is 4 hours in duration, with a 25min break for tea/coffee and approximately 1 hour for lunch
  • The tour starts at 10am and finishes by 2pm
  • This tour operates Monday-Saturday
  • Tours do not operate on Sundays or public holidays
  • This tour involves casual walking (approximately 2km is covered) and there are a few stairs along the way, but participants do not require a high level of fitness
  • Minimum age is 15 years
  • Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

This tour runs with a maximum of 8 people. We require a minimum of 4 people for the tour to go ahead.

In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider.

Wear suitable clothes for walking and please be prepared for the weather conditions on the day. Wearing practical shoes is recommended.

A great insight into Melbournes history and progression in the CBD. Lovely morning tea & delicious lunch. Small group of people so its very personable & friendly. Found some amazing little shops to revisit.

We liked being in a mixed group of overseas visitors and locals to add to the conversation. Nice Peruvian lunch and super hot chocolate. Would have liked to stop in a few shops though as we past.

We have walked Melbourne CBD many times as recently as the previous weekend! What insight we gained on our tour was amazing. Our guide was passionate and knowledgeable with a warm personality to match. Ps lunch and coffee break were excellent!

I really enjoyed my tour of the laneways. It was well organised & our guide was excellent. Having lived in Mebourne for so many years, I was suprised at how much I didn't know about this amazing city. Highly recommend to anyone.

A big thank you to our tour guide for showing us around our home town- little gems we had never noticed or heard of! Thank you! In future I would have rathered eaten lunch at one of the cafes we were shown then the one at the end which we were given little information about. Love the little character cafes the most so hopefully that could be incorporated for future lunches :)
