Learn the basics of sailing. On everyone's 'must do' list, sailing is a beautiful, exciting sport that lets you truly experience your magnificent surrounds. Spend three hours experiencing the thrill of steering the race-tuned yachts - learn the basics and be at one with the waves.

Briefing

The aim of this short experience is to introduce newcomers to the wonderful sport of sailing in a safe, controlled way. The lesson begins with a crew briefing, before getting the sails hoisted and heading out towards Sydney heads. By the end of the lesson, you will have experienced basic crew work, as well as helming on different points of sail. Enjoy refreshments in the waterside bar or cafe at Middle Harbour Yacht Club after hours on the harbour - it's a way of life you'll have to get used to!

Session Length

This experience is three hours in duration.

Guidelines

Minimum age is 12 years
Any participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult 18 or over

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 14 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 14 days of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

Maximum of 10 partcipants.

Weather

We operate rain or shine - you're a sailor now! We can provide rainwear if necessary. We'll let you know if the weather is too rough to sail. If cancelled due to weather, the supplier will contact you ASAP to let you know. Cancelled experiences will be rescheduled for a later date.

Dress Code

Non slip trainers or deck shoes - we also recommend sunnies, hat and spray jacket.

[Employee of redballoon] An incredible, hands-on sailing experience that I would recommend to anyone. We were complete beginners, however the team could cater to any levels of experience. Walked away with more knowledge than we anticipated! Views were spectacular, from Middle Harbour to the Opera House. 10/10 would do again.

Hi Red Balloon, Unfortunately after all this waiting, this sailing event did not happen. I caught Covid at the last minute - phoned the people to advise them and was told that if I re-schedule for September I will have to pay half the fee again - even though the full fee was paid this time and not used. Great skipper who was happy to teach us and let us have a go. Made us feel like one of the crew. Highly recommend this as a starting point to get a feel like what sailing is all about

I had a great time last Saturday with skipper Phil. He was incredibly knowledgeable on all areas of the boat its mechanics and sailing in general. It was a great introduction to sailing which leaves me wanting to do more. Highly Recommended
