Calling all animal lovers! Go behind the scenes of the Devils and Cradle's animal nursery and be introduced to some of the younger joey residents living in the sanctuary, who are being raised by the sanctuary's keepers. During the tour you will be able to pat and take photos with these adorable young animals such as Tasmanian devils, quolls and wombats. Your experienced keeper guide will perform general health checks as they provide some insights on what is involved in looking after them. Either before or after the tour, you will be able to wander around the sanctuary at your leisure and join one of the Day Keeper Tours to complete your sanctuary experience. Your special moment with these cute furry animals will be without a doubt a memorable experience.

Important information

Session Length

Please allow approximately 30-45 minutes for the duration of this experience
Operating daily at 12.00pm (OCT-APR) & 4.00pm (Year-round).
You are able to wander around the sanctuary at your own leisure during general entry hours.
You are able to join one of our Day Keeper Tours available at 10.30am and 3pm daily (45mins).

Restrictions

Bookings are essential.

Guidelines

Participants under the age of 16 must always be accompanied by a paying adult.

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

This experience runs with a maximum of 10 participants.

Weather

Devils@Cradle is an outdoor facility located at high altitude in an alpine environment and regularly receives adverse weather including heavy rain, snow and wind. Tours operate in all weather conditions.

Dress Code

Parts of this tour is conducted in a covered outdoor area, so it is recommended that visitors dress for the weather conditions on the day.

Other Info

PLEASE NOTE: Devils and quolls are marsupials with annual breeding cycles. Whilst we do use our young ambassadors, it is not always possible for us to have very young joeys available for these encounters. Breeding does vary slightly from season to season, but generally speaking, our hand-reared animals used on this tour are considered joeys (~Oct-Apr) and juveniles or sub-adults (~May-Sept). We will endeavour to introduce you to one or more of our focused species (devils and/or quolls), however this cannot always be guaranteed. Where these species are not available, we will introduce you to one or more of our rescued orphaned animals. We value our animals’ welfare above all else, therefore each animal will only be included in the tour, or stay on the tour for any length of time, when they feel comfortable in doing so. Please contact us prior to booking if you would like more information for these encounters throughout the year.

Beautiful evening activity

We had a great time on the sunset encounter! Our evening started with a beverage of our choice and a tour of the quoll enclosures. We then got to go into the tasmanian devil nursery and meet Tinker, a beautiful baby tasmanian devil. Tinker was up for some pats and was the cutest. After this we headed back to the deck to watch three of the adult devils have feeding time, with a campfire and delicious local treats. Our host/guide was so lovely and knowledgeable, taking time to answer everyone's questions and make sure everyone got some good photos of the baby devil. Would recommend this as a lovely evening activity!

Absolutely a must. The keepers are so passionate and well informed and really do love interacting with the animals, and want to let you know why you should help the endangered creatures. And you get up and close with the animals too!

The joey experience was the highlight of our holiday. They are such placid, lovely little animals. The keeper held them in his arm, and we patted them. They drifted off to sleep. Simply adorable. They didn't like when the pats stopped, and would look up at you so you resumed. Highly recommended experience.
