Have you always wanted to be a pilot? Take to the skies on an introductory gliding flight with a qualified instructor over Melbourne.

Gliding is one of the most popular aviation sports, and it's easy to see why. The perfect mix of elegant flying, gentle exhilaration and friendly atmosphere at the gliding club makes for an unforgettable experience.

After an introduction with your qualified flight instructor you will be towed to your release height of 3000 feet. Once the required height has been reached the instructor will release the glider from the tow aircraft and the wonderful experience of "silent flight" commences. You will be soaring on the thermals in the same way as birds. In fact, with no engines to scare them away, don't be surprised if you are joined mid-flight by a local wedge tail eagle!

At their discretion, your instructor may also allow you to have some "hands on" flying experience and teach you the basics of flying the glider.

Important information

Session Length

This experience is available on weekends only
Due to the popularity of this experience you are recommended to book a couple of months in advance
Your flight is approximately 30 minutes in duration depending on the weather

Guidelines

Maximum weight is 104 kg
Minimum age is 12 years
This experience is not suitable to pregnant women or people with heart complaints
You must be fit enough to climb in and out of the glider

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

You will be assigned your own personal instructor for your flight. They will guide you throughout your experience.

Weather

In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead contacted by the experience provider. If your experience is cancelled you will be rescheduled by the provider.

Dress Code

Please wear casual attire, a hat and sunglasses, plenty of sun screen and appropriate covered footwear - runners, mountain boots or walking shoes.

This experience takes place at Bacchus Marsh Airfield, VIC.

Great experience with dedicated volunteers

Well educated before the glide....felt incredibly safe. The most peaceful yet exciting thing you can do. Add it to your bucket list, you won't regret it. I however, was to excited that I completely forgot to take photos while in the air🤣.

I would highly recommend it anyone. Everyone involved all worked as a team were brilliant and so relaxed and confident they put me at ease immediately we arrived. Bob (Pilot) was fantastic as was PJ. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

You need to change the title .You aren't allowed to glide over built up areas, who wants to visit the city any way. Enjoyed my time in the air very professional operation .

An unforgettable experience! As someone who has scuba dived and sky dived ... just to float around in the sky with: * no propeller/jet noise * and a super view of the countryside around Bachus March ... was wonderful.

Have been waiting 4 years to do my Glider Flight over Melbourne. Communication with the team was on point and once there the club could not have been more welcoming. Everyone introduced themselves and shared their passion and knowledge about gliding. Thanks to 'Hoff' and everyone else for the relaxed but safe time. We got some great thermals and some speed up, even got to have a fly with a pair of eagles close by. Big tick - the cost of the flight (minus Red Balloons cut all goes to the Club!). One off the bucket list - recommend, recommend, recommend :)

My overall experience was fantastic. This was the first time I hade been involved in any type of flight other than as a passenger on a commercial flight. The guys made me very comfortable and they were very thorough. The flight itself was unbelievable, I even took control of the glider for a while which was very surreal. Gliding 3kms above the ground was so calm, peaceful and relaxing, I could have easily had a nap. The only negative was the lack of directions once I arrived at the airport. I rang the contact number and I received very little support or empathy which left me feeling quite annoyed when I had no idea where I was to go or how to get there. Thankfully 20 mins later I finally found my way and the guys restored my excitement before the flight.
