Set off on a full day trip from Airlie Beach into Eungella National Park, where misty subtropical rainforest hides wild platypus at Broken River.
Discover the Land of the Clouds on a full day trip from Airlie Beach into Eungella National Park, where more than 51,700 hectares of subtropical rainforest climb the misty Clarke Ranges. Thousands of years of isolation have left this the longest unbroken stretch of its kind in Australia, and the walking track leads you beneath a dense green canopy to the Sky Window lookout and its views across the ranges.
The real prize waits at Broken River, one of the few places in the country where platypus are seen in the wild. With a little patience, you might watch one surface, ripple the water and slip away again. A lunch stop at the Pinnacle Hotel brings a proper Aussie country pub into the day. Give this to someone who loves nature at its quietest, and let the rainforest do the rest.
