Sit back for a relaxing 2.5 hour cruise from Cullen Bay to the Tiwi Islands, where you will experience the culturally rich community of Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island. Renowned for Aboriginal art and culture as well as incredible hospitality, you will meet your local Tiwi guide and be welcomed onto Tiwi land with traditional totem dances and a smoking ceremony. Enjoy a traditional morning tea with damper, before walking through the Mission Precinct, where your knowledgeable guide will provide detailed and informative commentary on the culture and history of Tiwi people. Continue on to Tiwi Design for lunch, then spend the afternoon getting creative with an Aboriginal artist to make your own work of art. Choose from contemporary or traditional Tiwi design to print onto a take-home t-shirt, tea towel or fabric, a wonderful souvenir of your Tiwi visit.

Check in at 7.30am and return at 5.45pm at the Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal
Travel time is approximately 2.5 hrs on the ferry each way
Does not operate on public holidays

Guidelines

Children four years and under are free of charge
Please make sure you ask a Tiwi local before you take a photo of them. Do not take photos of children
Please note that this tour a walking tour, not a coach tour. It is conducted at a leisurely pace, with no special level of fitness required. Wurrumiyanga is a small Aboriginal community with everything easily accessible by foot

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows will result in you forfeiting your experience

Dress Code

Please avoid wearing any skimpy clothing or cut off shorts as this is not culturally appropriate on the Tiwi Islands.

Tiwi Island tour was interesting and well run

I learned a lot about the Tiwi Islands. Vivian was friendly and very knowledgeable. Without their input the island would not have been nearly as interesting. Lunch was excellent and screen printing was fun although if you want to print a tshirt maybe take your own as sizes were limited.
