Embark on an unforgettable underwater adventure, snorkelling with cheeky and cheerful Australian fur seals and the remarkable Weedy Sea Dragons! Departing Sorrento Pier in Victoria's picturesque Mornington Peninsula, your cruise commences with a welcome tea or coffee as you revel in views of the coastline and cliff top mansions. Arriving at the seal platform, a structure built just for the seals in Port Phillip Bay, you will take the plunge to swim with these gentle, playful and curious creatures.

This sheltered area has a maximum depth of four metres and participants can float on the surface and watch the seals swim freely around them if they wish. It's then onto the Sea Dragons where we head back to the coast and enter the shallow waters of Portsea and snorkel in search of the magical Weedy Sea Dragons.

Important information

Session Length

This experience is two hours in duration
Cruises operate daily from the end of October to April each year
Tours depart from Sorrento Pier at varied times due to the tide
It is recommended that you book at least one week in advance of your preferred date
Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure

Restrictions

Guests who can not swim are not permitted to enter the water, we have specific sightseeing experiences available

Guidelines

This experience is available October to April only
Before participating, a parent or guardian must fill in a medical form outlining any medical conditions that the guest may have
No snorkelling experience or strong swimming skills required; expert guides will ensure you are comfortable and safe in the water at all times

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

Cruises may have a minimum of 15 guests.

Weather

In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider.

Dress Code

You will need to bring your swimmers and a towel. All snorkelling gear, wetsuits, change rooms and shower facilities are provided.

Other Info

There are change facilities and a bathroom on board.

Everything was amazing, tbh! Nothing negative to say. The crew were extremely warm and nice. The tour itself was so fun! You are really up close and personal with the seals. The staff offer hot chocolate, coffee or tea on the ride back and a little snack! We had carrot cake. We also bought our own food on the boat because my friend and I always have the munchies, and the crew did not mind! The tour also offers all the equipment you need for the snorkelling. The wet suit is optional! Everyone wore one, besides me hehe. I had an amazing time, blew my expectations and cannot wait to do it again. Thank you everyone involved on an amazing day!

It’s a good way to spend the weekend in the ocean. I got up to the trip from Sorrento pier and the boat is amazing. The staff crew is awesome and I have a great time.

We booked the swimming with seals and had the best experience. Luckily it was a perfect sunny and warm day. We were given wetsuits, snorkels and flipper before getting on the boat, The boat took us to where the seals 'hung out' and we all spent around 45 minutes in the water with them. Everyone was very helpful and made everyone feel safe.I'd love to do it again. Or with the dolphins net time! Highly recommended.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to swim with the dolphins but they did everything in there power to still create a super cool experience (we also all revive banana bread with was a nice little treat). The seals where so cute and left amazing to be that close

We had a fantastic time swimming with the seals and were lucky enough to see lots more marine life during our tour. The staff were lovely and organized and made it an unforgettable experience.

We bought this as a gift for our daughter's 16th birthday. While I was not able to overcome my own fears, the rest of the family had a wonderful experience with the crew in the water. Given I was not able to be in the water, despite the crew's best (and most attentive efforts) I was able to sit on board with the captain for the duration of the experience, which I was not sad about. She was magnificent, professional and exceptionally friendly. The day was perfect, the experience with the seals was amazing and the crew was very cautious with our children, even managing to keep my 12-year old boy in line. Thank you Moonraker for the day, we will be back!

Me and my son did the Snorkel with Seals tour and it was amazing. We both absolutely loved the experience, so many seals around us, jumping in and out of the water. The crew on the ship was awesome, super friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.

This is a terrific operation. We were booked for a 2 hour deal swim which was unable to go ahead due to low numbers, and had a free upgrade to the dolphin and seal swim on the same day. The dolphins were elusive on the day we went, however the trip on the boat and the searching for them all felt like a part of the experience, like a little ocean safari 😂 There wasn’t an actual opportunity to swim with dolphins as they chose not to interact with the boat that day, so those who signed on for a dolphin swim may have been dissatisfied however we were chuffed to get so close to wild dolphins from the boat. The swim with the seals was amazing. They’re not regulated in the way dolphin interaction is, so we were able to swim right up to where they were sunbaking on the rocks and have a few swim around us. Cannot recommend swimming with the seals highly enough. The staff were all so welcoming and put us at ease very quickly. They were quick to give a frightened kid one-on-one support to help him enjoy the seal swim. All in all this is a very cute and enjoyable eco-tourist attraction. I love how they prioritised the well-being of the animals. Can’t wait to swim again!
