Cradle Mountain is a stunning World Heritage listed area. With around 5 hours to spend in the National Park we leave our walking itinerary flexible to suit our guests and the weather conditions on the day. After departing Launceston we enjoy a short stop in Sheffield – The Town of Murals. Sheffield is Tasmania’s own outdoor art gallery, featuring over 100 paintings on the walls of buildings across the town. The artwork depicts the history of the Cradle Mountain region and is a great taster of what is to come, before we continue onwards into the mountains.

Arriving at the Cradle Mountain National Park, we aim for around 4 – 5 hours in the National Park, to really make the most of the trails. We begin our adventures with one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks, which gives us the perfect introduction to the area the Enchanted Walk trail. An easy 20 minute circuit following Pencil Pine Creek. Our main hike for today's tour, begins from Dove Lake with 2 walking options available. Here you can choose your preferred main walk. There is the iconic Dove Lake Circuit which is a 6 kilometre track, classified as easy-moderate grade, this is a 2-3 hour hike. This is one of the premier walks in Tasmania, the track undulates around Dove Lake and traverses beneath Cradle Mountain. All the magnificent flora can be viewed on this walk, with buttongrass, myrtle, sassafras, fagus and King Billy Pine along the way, along with epic views of Cradle Mountain

For the more active and avid hiker, we offer the chance to climb to the loftier heights of Marion’s Lookout. This is around 4 kilometers but is classified as a medium grade hike, with some steep sections. Marions Lookout sits at 1200m, and provides breathtaking 360 degree views of the surrounding World Heritage wilderness area. We stop along the way for a lunch break, enjoy a rest by a quiet stream, watch the famous and friendly Cradle wombats in their natural habitat, or take the time to photograph the landscapes. Learn some of the local history as we visit Weindorfer’s Chalet and see the ancient King Billy Pines on Weindorfer’s Forest Walk. On our return to Launceston, we stop to refresh and refuel at the delicious Van Dieman's Land Ice Creamery and Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm. We return into Launceston around 6.00pm after a huge yet unforgettable Cradle Mountain Day

Weather

All tour participants will be participating in outdoor, active activities and therefore subject to the outdoor weather conditions of the day.

Dress Code

• A day backpack • Refillable water bottle • Closed, sturdy shoes for walking (runners, sneakers, hiking boots) • Sensible clothes for outdoor conditions (warm layers are a great idea!) • A waterproof jacket, just in case. • A sunhat and beanie • A sense of adventure!

Other Info

Exclusions : No Food, snacks and drinks - you will have an opportunity to stop enroute to the National Park to purchase lunch/snacks to take along with you for your tour day. This stop is in a regional town at a local Bakery. The selection includes sandwiches, rolls, wraps etc. If you have special dietary requirements or prefer other choices, you may wish to come prepared with your own food of choice. Lunch will be in a picnic area at Freycinet National Park. No Airport drop offs No luggage on board, only your day pack for the day

The Cradle Mountain Tour was very enjoyable and the scenery was amazing. We were blessed with really fine weather which resulted in great photos. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and very helpful. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

A wonderful day out with the highlight being the walk around Dove Lake Graham our guide was terrific taking care that we could set our own pace and not miss anything and we didn't feel rushed at any time You are taken to a great bakery on the way to get morning tea and lunch provisions which us contrary to the red balloon website instructions so don't panic the day before trying to stock up A fantastic day !!

We went on this trip last weekend and had great experience accomplishing a few short walks around Lake Drove (due to the rainy weather we cannot do longer walks), a tour around Sheffield (town of murals), honey and cheese tasting and shopping. Despite the fact that due to the cloudy weather we were not able to have a full view of Cradle Mountain, the group leader was really knowledgeable and explained to us many features of the mountain and the local culture. We also had the opportunity to have a night view of Launceston city lights on a high land on our way back to hotels. Will highly recommend this tour to anyone who is after a hassle free and comfortable coach/bus trip to Cradle mountain and a company of a super professional and friendly local group leader/guide.

Fantasic tour guide and beautiful views. There's a walk for all fitness levels. I climbed to marians lookout and the view was breathtaking, and certainly worth the climb
