Hop aboard your cruise ship at the port of Goolwa and get ready for an unforgettable adventure discovering the beauty of the Coorong. On board, you'll be served a delicious lunch as you journey downstream and towards Goolwa Barrage where you'll travel through the lock chamber. Here, keep your eyes peeled for some fur seals lazing about and native birds flying around! Continue along the waterways of the Coorong and enjoy a scenic cruise down the Murray River, famously known as Australia's largest river, to Murray Mouth where you'll be met by the impressive sight of the Southern Ocean.

Take in fresh air and the beautiful scenery of the open water before passing some notable sites from 1976 film 'Storm Boy' and coming across the quaint fishing village of the Coorong Shacks. You'll then stop for an optional guided walk on an incredible trail through the dunes that will lead you to 90 Mile Beach. At the beach, you'll learn the exciting 'Coorong Shuffle', which is a method used by locals to dig Pipi's from the sand. Head back to the boat to enjoy some afternoon tea to cap off an unforgettable day on the Coorong!

This half day experience is three hours and 30 minutes in duration
Available Monday, Thursday and Saturday all year round
Cruise departs at 1pm; boarding will commence approximately 15 minutes prior to departure time

Guidelines

Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking
Passengers are required to be sufficiently mobile to navigate stairs and generally move around the vessel

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

Minimum of eight and a maximum of 42 participants.

Weather

Poor weather conditions may cause cancellation of the experience. The experience can be rescheduled or refunded if cancelled.

Dress Code

Please wear comfortable walking shoes, hat and sunscreen and jacket. It is recommended to bring a camera, binoculars (to maximise viewing of birdlife) and extra drinks (if you would like).

A brilliant way to spend a spare couple of hours!

A unique way of experiencing the scenery, marine mammals (mainly long nose fur seals) and abundant birdlife (headlined by all varieties of cormorants, and pelicans in particular of the natural treasure that is the Coorong National Park. This tour was done just a few days after South Australia's first case of dangerous avian influenza was recorded in a nearby location. All the birds and mammals seen on this tour are going to be at serious risk if H5N1 becomes widespread. Let's hope the government stay ahead of the curve in managing it.

Driver and commentator Joel, knowledgeable, clear voice. Assistant excellent too. Comfortable boat, picnic type lunch. Drinks could be brought or bought on vessel. Interesting commentary on both indigenous and European history.

What a great afternoon on the water

The staff on board the spirit of the Coorong were fantastic. When we walked over the dunes to the beach Eva (I think that was her name) was very knowledgable and a consummate speaker to a group of about 60. The lunch and afternoon tea was quite good. The boat was very comfortable and quite fast in some part. A great afternoon on the water worth every cent.
