Situated at one of the great capes of the world and where the Southern and Indian Oceans converge, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is mainland Australia's tallest lighthouse. Take a trip through maritime history as you climb to the top of this famous landmark with an expert guide. Hear stories of its construction from local limestone in 1895, how it is still a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating the treacherous cape and of the lives of people who used to live there. Once you step out onto the balcony, gaze in awe at the seascape that surrounds you, witnessing powerful waves crashing and the rugged wilderness that lines the coastline.

Session Length

  • This experience is 30 minutes in duration
  • Tours departs every half hour between 9am and 4:30pm daily

Restrictions

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) will be undertaking significant restoration works at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse as part of its nationwide maintenance and conservation program for lighthouses across Australia. The restoration work is scheduled in commence in September 2021. During this period, the Lighthouse tower will be closed and guided tours will be suspended. The precinct, however, will remain open to visitors, who will continue to have access to the Lighthouse grounds and award-winning interpretive centre housed in one of the original lighthouse keepers’ cottages. The Cape Leeuwin Café will also remain open during this period of work.

  • A moderate level of fitness is required as you must be able to walk up and down stairs
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult

  • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
