Explore Britannia Caves, an incredible underground world just outside of Melbourne on this caving adventure. You'll wade through subterranean rivers, crawl through some tight squeezes, climb over chasms and view the beautiful glow worms.

Get ready to explore the depths of the Earth and wade through subterranean rivers, marvel at the phosphorus glow worms, cross chasms and explore the caverns of this unique granite boulder cave! You'll make your into the pitch-black cave guided by only the light from your torch and feel like you're in an alien underground world. There are only five known caves like this one in Victoria which makes it quite special. Formed over thousands of years of water erosion, these huge granite boulders jumbled on top of each other make this caving adventure a thrilling experience and houses a unique ecosystem of glow worms, cave crickets and fungi amongst others.

You'll wade through subterranean rivers, crawl through some tight squeezes, climb over chasms and view the beautiful glow worms. There are multiple exits and entries to the cave system, which enables even the most claustrophobic of people to have an enjoyable time. Remember this is not your average guided walk-around caving experience- this is adventure caving! You will be crawling on your hands and knees, scrambling over rocks, sliding, navigating some tight spaces, exploring hidden caverns and getting wet and muddy. This adventure can be quite physical but guaranteed it is worth the effort.

You will be crawling on your hands and knees, climbing over boulders and wading through rivers on this experience
Participants must be able to fit through some enclosed spaces
Kids under 16 years only $10. One $10 child with every paying adult. Adults with more than one child will be charged at the adult rate.

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience this will incure a $15 per person rebooking fee, this includesd kids under 16
Changes within 7 days of your experience will be charged at $30 per person. This includes kids under 16
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

This experience has a maximum capacity of 12 people and a minimum of 6 to operate

Weather

This experience may be rescheduled if lightning and thunder is present, otherwise this experience operates in all other conditions.

Dress Code

Please wear old clothes and closed toed shoes only as they will get filthy, we recommend thicker clothing such as joggers and thick jumper to protect you from the rough rock. Please bring a complete change of clothes to get changed into after the caving. You must wear closed toe footwear, long sleeves and long trousers. You will need to wear a thin pair of gloves to protect your hands as you will be crawling on your hands and knees, you will be provided a pair of caving gloves, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Other Info

This is adventure caving there will be no sealed walkways or passages and you will be crawling on your hands and knees for the duration, there are some tight spaces to navigate however these can be avoided, you will get muddy and wet so please dress appropriately.

I'm in my early 60s and it was a great experience and the guide was knowledgeable and looked after all the participants very well. Would have no hesitation recommending this to those that like a challenging adventure

Fantastic experience. The guide was knowledgeable and professional. My 2 kids loved the challenge and especially the glow worms. There were some tight spots to navigate (that the group chose to do, there were easier alternatives for those who preferred), which was a little scary, but overall and excellent experience...

Excellent fun! Read all the instructions, especially about clothing as this is a WET cave and you'll come out brown and wet with a big smile. The tour guides are friendly, competent and knowledgeable. The gear provided was in good nick and effective. We were underground for about 90 mins. Very happy!

I'm 75 years old and I made it through the cave OK, however you do need a level of fitness and agility as some of the sections can be a little challenging. Paul and his off-sider were excellent guides. It was a great adventure and though it's fair to say I probably won't take up full-time caving, it was good fun to have done.

The caving experience was fantastic! Our guides were very easy going, approachable and helpful. Be prepared to get wet and muddy if you choose this cave! The length of time spent in the cave was just right, and the degree of fitness required was also well described by the business.

Paul was our guide and he made everyone feel welcome and included. He was very encouraging especially around the trickier parts of the cave. This is such a fun experience that I will want to go again!

We mentioned that my 63 year old mum was nervous so we stayed at the back with the guide Joe who reassured her of what was coming up, how to go through safely etc. And... She did it the whole way through!! This was intense but so much fun. Absolutely loved it. We had to reschedule with covid lockdowns and Paul's communication was understanding and effective. They both helped film on our gopro to assist filming us both which the footage turned out incredible! My mum was so nervous about the small spaces but she was able to get through it and loved it. Thank you Paul and Joe for an incredible memory we now share together!

Definitely expect to get wet and muddy but this was an awesome experience, guides were great. So long as you’re not claustrophobic this is a great choice.
