Adelaide Zoo, one of Adelaide’s most iconic attractions, is home to more than 2,500 animals and 250 species of exotic and native mammals, birds, reptiles and fish exhibited over eight hectares of magnificent botanic surroundings. It is the second oldest zoo in the nation and represents a significant part of South Australia’s heritage and social history. Since Adelaide Zoo first opened to the public in 1883, generations of South Australians have shared in the wonder of a visit to the zoo. It’s a relaxing green city oasis and vibrant sanctuary that gives you the feeling of stepping into another world. It’s full of diversity, colour and unique things to see and do. It offers an intimate zoo experience speckled with elements of curiosity, fantasy, fun and surprise. Adelaide Zoo is the only major metropolitan zoo in Australia to be owned and operated by a conservation charity, Zoos SA.

Adelaide Zoo is open from 9.30am to 5.00pm daily, including Christmas Day. Guests can arrive at their leisure during opening hours.

A great family day out

[Employee of redballoon] I recently took our whole family out for a day at the Adelaide Zoo. The zoo is home to over 2,500 animals, including the only giant pandas in the Southern Hemisphere . The well-maintained enclosures and informative signage made it easy to learn about the animals. The daily keeper talks we great, they offered insights into animal behaviors and conservation efforts . Its located just a short walk from Rundle Mall, super convenient and a perfect outing for all ages

My family and I went down to the zoo after redeeming the gift online and when we got to the ticket booth and showed the booking we were told that the Adelaide zoo's system and RedBalloon's system were not talking to each other so we could not go in. It was an issue they were aware of and had been happening for some time. They told us that if we wanted to go to the zoo we would have to pay and that we could exchange the voucher for something else. We wouldn't have even been at the zoo if it weren't for this gift voucher I received for my birthday but you try and tell your child that we can't go because a company sold something that they could not deliver on! We bought tickets and had a good day regardless of the beginning and I will not be exchanging my voucher for something else as I want nothing to do with this company after the embarrassment I went through on the weekend. I have told the person who gave the voucher for the zoo, as well as a voucher for Monarto, that they should demand a full refund because I will not use this service.

Amazing experience! The weather was perfect and the layout of the zoo was so easy and accessible! Booking on red balloon made the line up quick to get in! Would recommend for a peacefully date out

The grounds, animal enclosures and staff were outstanding. Fantastic day out! Thoroughly enjoyed the giraffe feeding experience. Highly recommended, my favourite zoo!

Great Zoo Experience

Adelaide Zoo is a fantastic zoo. There are some animals that we haven’t seen at other zoos, like the hippo and of course the pandas. I like how they have provided an interactive experience with the animals free to roam but also giving us the chance to get up and close e.g., quokka selfies! Close to the city and easy to get to, it was a great day out.

The Heather wasn't on our side the day we booked in 38c. So most of the animals where hidden. We where told there was water refill stations around the zoo, we only found 3 and one was out of order. There was also alot of empty enclosures. My 2.5 year old son was more excited about driving around in the car/truck that are $15 to hire.

It is amazing to go to a place that you haven't visited in years. All of the memories come flooding back as you create new ones. Not going to wait 10+ years to go again.

A Day at Adelaide Zoo

Adelaide zoo was incredible and interactive. The zoo was easy to get around and most animals where at least visible. Animals seemed quiete happy to be around so many people. Food prices were a little expensive as suspected but not going to send you broke. Highlights were hugging a kangaroo and playing with quokkas. The meerkats around the zoo are amazing to watch, especially the babies and watch out for monkey poo as the little monkeys run through passages above your head!
