Take a journey into the Australian outback for a wonder-filled and unforgettable experience. Departing from your Broken Hill accommodation, you will travel north-east to the unique opal-mining town of White Cliffs. White Cliffs is Australia's oldest commercial opal field and home to the rare pineapple-shaped opal. The tiny community lives underground to escape the blazing outback heat, creating an eerie lunar landscape above. Experience a taste of underground living as you explore local White Cliffs mines, museums and the iconic Solar Power Stations and visit some opal shops and the renowned white house. Wind down the day with an unforgettable stay at the Underground Motel.

Leaving your underground oasis, you will head west along the vast red dirt plains towards Packsaddle Roadhouse, with a homemade morning tea on the banks of an outback salt lake to be enjoyed along the way. You'll visit an ancient Indigenous site which is home to one of the largest concentrations of Aboriginal Panaramitee style rock engravings in Australia. The art is characterised by motifs pecked into the rock surface by a specially designed stone tool, predominately depicting animal tracks like kangaroo and bird tracks. Some extinct forms are also recorded, such as thylacine, giant kangaroo and diprotodon. You'll learn more about the dreamtime and creation stories that are told through these rock engravings by your knowledgeable guides. Following this, enjoy a picnic lunch before embarking on the scenic return journey home through the Barrier Ranges.
