Explore and immerse yourself in the world of the Bunbury Dolphins and their local marine environment. Learn all about the Bottlenose Dolphins and their fascinating lives. As an Advanced Eco Tourism attraction, there are no captive dolphins on display. Discover the wild dolphins of Koombana Bay to provide a window into their natural behaviours. You are guaranteed to see dolphins or you go again for free. During the tour, the guides and volunteers will provide commentary and in water guidance giving you the best experience. You will see lots of different dolphin behaviours that can include playing, hunting, travelling, sleeping and mating. With your tour, you also support Conservation, Education, and Research projects of the Dolphin Discovery Centre Bunbury as an environmental charity. This tour is licensed by Parks and Wildlife Service WA as well as Advance Ecotourism certified for the welfare of the dolphins.

Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment, you must pre-book this experience in advance to guarantee your space. Please also note that this experience runs from November to April (subject to weather and min numbers).

Important information

Session Length

Tour duration 4 hours
Run everyday during season (weather permitting)
Tours start at 7:45am
Tours do not run on Christmas Day (25th & 26th December)
Interaction Zone operated by volunteers through Discovery Centre everyday 8:00am - 12pm
Check in for Swim Tour opens at 7:30am, no shows are non refundable

Restrictions

This swim tour is not recommended for poor swimmers as we operate in open water

Guidelines

Tours operate from November - April only
Swimmers have to be confident in open water
Children Swimmers min aged 8+ years need to be each accompanied by an adult at all times, Child Swimmers 12+ years that are confident swimmers can be in the water without parent
Observer Rates apply for customers that remain on the boat at all times - Observer Rates do not include in water experience
Contact the Dolphin Discovery Centre for any medical condition requirements
All swimmers must have the ability to tread water and all swimmers must sign off to a medical checklist

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 72 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes or cancellations are not permitted within 72 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Numbers on the Day

Minimum number of 8 swimmers, and maximum of 20 swimmers, total passenger numbers including Observers and Swimmer is 20.

Spectators

Observers can pay to come on the cruise and watch the swim.

Weather

This experience will still go ahead in the event of rain or inclement weather. If the experience provider does have to cancel the tour due to poor or dangerous weather, you will be rescheduled by the experience provider directly.

Dress Code

Please bring a swimwear, towel, warm change of clothes, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses. You can bring your own snorkelling gear or wetsuit if you would prefer.

Other Info

Please note, the dolphins of Koombana Bay are wild animals. In the event you do not get to see the dolphins, you can participate in another dolphin swim tour free of charge.

Great experience

Wonderful experience with the Dolphin Discovery Centre. Knowledgeable guides and volunteers who made the experience informative, interesting and engaging. We saw different groups of dolphins and calfs! Being wild dolphins it is hard to predict whether they'll swim towards or away from the group, but we were lucky enough to have a group of dolphins swim underneath us with one surfacing to breath in the middle of the swimmers. Others swam close to the boat and infront of other swimmers. Would recommend booking this experience and having realistic expectations that these are wild dolphins who decide if they want to interact or not.

The best day

I did the tour with my sister and my husband. It was the best experience ever. The staff is amazing, they were really cautious about out and the dolphins safety, they were funny and knowledgeable. Swimming with the dolphins was the best, we had so many chances to admire those majestic creatures. Recommend ❤️
