Departing from the picturesque town of Mannum, South Australia, your fully guided tour will take you along a scenic riverside drive before boarding the MV Dragonfly for a tranquil eco cruise along the mighty River Murray. Glide past abundant birdlife and unique landscapes as expert commentary brings Australia’s longest river to life. Next, delight in a riverside dining experience. Outdoors for a summer, traditional Aussie BBQ, or at one of our indoor partner venues for some hearty local fare. All complete with sweeping views of the mighty Murray and dietary needs catered for.

Finally, immerse yourself in the main event. An awe inspiring stargazing and astronomy session at the internationally recognised River Murray Dark Sky Reserve, one of the darkest places on Earth. Under a magical night sky canopy, astronomers will guide you through constellations, planets and galaxies using powerful telescopes and laser pointers. Recline on yoga mats or stools and feel free to bring your camera for astrophotography tips. This unforgettable experience will leave you truly starry eyed, with views that'll leave you breathless.

Cloud forecasts are unreliable until the day of tour departure. In the event of weather prohibiting your Dark Sky tour from proceeding, you will be contacted as soon as possible and offered to reschedule.

Dress Code

Flat, enclosed shoes are recommended. Dress warm as it can get cold at night time, even in summer.

A uniquely South Australian Experience

[Employee of redballoon] The River Murray Dark Sky & Sunset Dinner Tour was nothing short of magical. The evening began in downtown Mannum, where we were welcomed with a red carpet and a glass of Adelaide Hills bubbles before stepping into an immaculately clean, spacious, and incredibly comfortable vehicle – the perfect start to the night. We travelled along the riverbank to the discovery cruise, which was flawless. The vessel, the guide, and the commentary were all spot on, bringing the history and wildlife of the Murray to life. The abundance of birdlife was a highlight, and the two ferry crossings added a unique local touch. Dinner was an Aussie-themed BBQ served at golden hour by the cliffs as the sun set – simply breathtaking. After a relaxed meal, we drove to a private, secluded location for stargazing. Lying under a brilliant summer sky, far from any sound or light pollution, was pure magic. The stars glowed brightly, and the setting felt exclusive and serene – the perfect moment to pause and reflect. (along with a milo and Mars bar!) Kel, the host and owner, was exceptional – professional, warm, and full of genuine Aussie hospitality. You couldn’t ask for a better guide. The tour wrapped up back in Mannum around 11 pm, and I left feeling like I had experienced something truly special. This is the perfect blend of nature, luxury, and authentic Australian charm. Highly recommended for all ages.

This was a fantastic experience, highly recommended! From meet up, through to driving, dinner and the amazing Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Archaeological Cultural site experience and the star gazing at International Dark Sky Reserve everything was perfect. We were very lucky with amazing clear skies but every aspect of the tour was high quality. Our guide Elise was a delight and very informative. This was a once in a lifetime experience!

Had the most amazing experience that we will never forget. Kelly is an incredible tour guide and so lovely to spend time with. The peace and beauty out there is breathtaking. Seing Saturn with all its rings, Jupiter and the Milkyway through the telescope was remarkable! Ivy and her family were our Aboriginal Castodians who guided us to the ancient rock shelter at the Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Archaeological Cultural Site. They were so passionate and went out if their way to share there knowledge, experience and history.
