★★★★★ ★★★★★ Recommended Italian picnic for two was awesome Bruce 9 June 2026 We spent the day in the city visiting the Sistine chapel exhibition at St Marys Cathedral. After that we collected our picnic and a couple of coffee's and headed for the botanical gardens. The staff at the the terrace on the domain were terrific and friendly which enhanced. We found a nice seat in the gardens and then settled in to our lunch. There was a huge selection of food and lots of it. After lunch we headed to Government House for the open day. We then head to circular quay caught a ferry to Manly and back again. It was ready at midday as requested and we picked it up and took it to eat in the Botanical Gardens.When we opened it up- what a suprise. Lots of meat, beautifully fresh salad, pickles,olives, hommous, fresh toasted bread and rolls. The food was so tasty and beautifully prepared- it would have been extremely difficult to make this yourself. So for $99 we had a truly wonderful feast which was frankly a bit too much for us to eat. We took the desserts home and had them that night. We can’t recommend this highly enough and will be definitely doing it again. If you’re looking for something different and special to do, order this and be amazed. The bread was stale, the grapes were mushy, the salad was boiled pasta with mayonnaise and a few leaves thrown in, there were a few slices of ham, salami, a small 50 cent size container with olives and cucumber slices, the wraps not fresh... We had to eat with our fingers and use leaves to get at the pasta salad etc. Either these items should have been supplied or I should have been told to bring my own utensils. Was told to take a seat it should only be 5 minutes. Over half an hour later the pack came out. Pretty disappointed that a prebooked lunch wasn't even close to being ready as there was no hot food involved. Lovely walk down through the garden to find a seat with a lovely view of the gardens and harbour. Opened pack, looked delicious but, no utensils to serve up the food supplied. Anyway just stick your fingers in and enjoy. Absolutely full and couldn't finish I went to wipe the oil and food off my fingers, no serviettes. ★★★★★ ★★★★★ Nice experience, not worth the cost at all Ella S 18 January 2025 Overall, the experience was nice, but honestly, it would have cost a fraction of the price to make my own picnic and eat on the domain…and the food would probably have been tastier. The attendant I spoke to was friendly and handed us our platter promptly. The issue wasn’t just pricing, but that I was provided incorrect information the day prior to the picnic. I rang up to confirm our package, and also specifically asked if any of the items would be changed due to seasonal availability. The representative I spoke to said everything would be as written. I specifically asked if the dessert would be tiramisu, she confirmed that it would be (it was not). I also saw that there was fluff on top of the orange cake… which I truthfully hope was not mould (it tasted fine) Everything else tasted…okay…just okay, not amazing. The focaccia was a bit stale, and there was no fresh fruit, except a single strawberry with the brownie and orange cake. Honestly, definitely not worth the cost for the food provided - it’s more worth your money to order a platter at Coles and go to the domain as it’s not like it costs to eat there!
