Great experience!

My wife and I loved this class. The whisky was amazing and the presentation was informative and built our understanding of the craft of whisky making and its evolution in Japan. We kicked on with a cheese board and a boilermaker in the bar downstairs.

I recently attended the Japanese Whisky Masterclass & Tasting at Whisky + Alement, and it was truly an outstanding experience. From the moment the session began, it was clear that the team brings unmatched passion, deep expertise, and genuine hospitality to everything they do. The masterclass offered far more than a standard tasting. It was an expertly curated journey through Japan’s whisky heritage—covering history, production methods, regional distinctions, and the philosophies behind iconic distilleries. The presenter’s knowledge was exceptional, but equally impressive was the way they delivered it: accessible, engaging, and rich with stories that brought each whisky to life. The tasting lineup itself was remarkable. Each pour was thoughtfully selected to highlight the diversity and evolution of Japanese whisky—from elegant, subtle expressions to bold, complex limited releases. Being able to compare styles side-by-side, with guidance on flavour profiles, craftsmanship, and context, elevated the experience well beyond what you could achieve on your own. The venue added to the day: intimate, relaxed, and perfectly set up for both learning and conversation. The staff were generous with their insights and created an environment that felt welcoming to both seasoned whisky enthusiasts and newcomers. Overall, the masterclass was not only educational but deeply enjoyable—a genuine celebration of Japanese whisky. I left with a greater appreciation for the craft and a desire to explore even more. The whisky was fine. The session was not

The whisky itself was nice but the session is not run well. There is too much talking at you with no real chance to interact with other people. And the seating is really uncomfortable when you have to sit there for so long squished in with others.

It was a full session for the presentation, everybody was enjoying themselves, a really positive vibe was apparent as our guide took us on a journey through Japanese history and explained the key features of this very popular subject. Our guide is a gifted raconteur, and the presentation was spiced with intrigue and information about the ups and downs of the Japanese Whisky industry. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I highly recommend this event
