The delights of caving will be revealed during this beginners introduction! Located just 90 minutes out of Melbourne at Yarra Junction, you will explore granite boulder caves during an epic underground adventure. Discover the intrigue of caving in one day!
On the day of your experience we will either pick you up from Lilydale Train station or meet you at Gladysdale Bakehouse, 2568 Warburton Highway, on the corner of Riversdale Road and Warburton Highway, Yarra Junction, 3797. Where there are lots of delicious freshly baked foods to choose from and of course coffee and tea while you wait for your group of novice cavers to arrive.
Public Transport Option is by catching the no. 683 Bus from Lilydale train station to the Gladysdale Bakehouse.
From Yarra Junction we will take you in our shuttle vehicle up a winding dirt road to the secluded cave site.
Once at the caving site we will give you a safety briefing and put on your caving equipment. Feel the excitement build as you climb into this truly wondrous underground world. You are about to explore a maze of underground caves!
In these caverns under the earth you will find phosphorous worms, cave crickets and, of course, your way out!
You will be caving in a unique granite boulder cave system, one of the very few that is located in Victoria. It really is an adventure suitable for novices as we navigate through, over and under the many solid granite boulders. There is even an underground shallow stream that flows gently through the cave that we cross through or step over a few times!
With several entry and exit points and about three different levels to the cave system, there’s so much to explore! Come and discover what caving is all about!
This experience generally takes place twice a month on the weekend. However, we do make arrangements for alternate dates with groups of three or more people. After meeting you at 9.30am, we get to Yarra Junction Caves at 10am and leave at approximately 3-3.30pm, enabling you to arrive in Melbourne around 5pm. You will be caving for approximately four hours.
You will need to have an average level of fitness and a bit of flexibility to participate in this experience. You will also need to feel comfortable in the dark and in spaces that you might have to crawl through

The price quoted is for one person. There will be a minimum of two and a maximum of 12 participants on the day. We operate with high staff ratios and small group numbers as per the Adventure Activity Standards.
Caving takes place underground and is therefore not usually affected by the weather. In the case of extreme weather conditions we may need to reschedule your experience for a later date. The water levels of each cave system are checked by a guide before the group enters.
Please wear comfortable shoes with good grip and old clothes that offer protection from mud and rocky surfaces long-sleeved shirts and long pants. You also need to bring a complete change of clothes as you will get wet while caving. Helmets, head torches and safety equipment will be provided.
You will be required to sign a waiver and fill out a medical form prior to participating in this experience. A picnic lunch is provided on the day.
Yarra Junction, approximately 90 minutes east of the Melbourne CBD. Pick-up is available from Lilydale Train station or Yarra Junction, Victoria.
