Far removed from the city lights, the Blue Mountains offers stunning night skies with unrivalled clarity, making it the perfect place for a spot of stargazing. Over 90 minutes, astrophysicist Dimitri and his partner Caroline will give you an introduction to the history of the Blue Mountains through time and to the celestial dance of planets, satellites, the Milky Way and beyond. You'll also receive tips and hacks on how to identify stars and constellations through naked-eye astronomy. After this, you'll have the opportunity to peek through a professional computerised telescope and be dazzled by a number of celestial objects, depending on the time of year and night, including Saturn's rings, the moons of Jupiter, Mars and Venus, star clusters and shooting stars if you're lucky!

Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings
Starts at sunset. Exact time to be confirmed upon booking

Guidelines

The minimum age is four years. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars on the night. There will have pairs to share and it will sanitised before/after handling

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Maximum of 20 participants.

Weather

Please be aware that astronomy tours are weather dependent, they may be cancelled in case of cloud cover meaning no visible stars. The provider will message you at 1pm on the day of the tour to confirm the tour and check the latest weather forecast (more notice possible upon request). If the tour is cancelled due to bad weather, customers will have the opportunity to reschedule for a later date with a voucher transferable to other people as a gift card, valid for the next 3 years in the Blue Mountains or Jervis Bay, or the opportunity to attend the indoor astronomy planetarium experience. Strictly no monetary refund is applicable on event cancellation.

Dress Code

Ensure you have warm clothes, gloves and a blanket as mountain nights are chilly.

Great Stargazing experience!

went to the 9.30pm session on May 6 which had 11 people. It was great to have a smaller group. The astrophysicists were well educated and easy to understand and I really enjoyed hearing about supernovas, and would definitely go again in winter to get the best view of the milkyway! The hot chocolate was also delicious ☺️

Understandable the evening was cancelled due to bad weather and great to have a backup option with the indoor planetarium. Though providing this information at short notice, post there 1pm cutoff time and holding a deadline to lock-in the alternative within 30mins, isn't ideal. Not providing a refund or the RedBalloon voucher back is even worse! Considering this is not mentioned on the experience terms. I was sent a gift voucher directly for another time, though after calling to explain I was moving interstate post this trip and wouldn't be back in town. The response was to give the voucher to someone else...
