Deep dive into ancient Aboriginal culture during this full day tour. Visit Cooya Beach and learn traditional fishing and gathering techniques from a Kubirri Warra clan member, experience a welcome to country smoke ceremony and embark on an interpretive rainforest walk at Mossman Gorge.
Your day begins with a pick up from your local accommodation by your personal driver-guide, followed by a scenic drive north along the famous Great Barrier Reef Drive past Port Douglas to Cooya Beach (Kuyu Kuyu). Here, you will meet a Kubirri Warra clan member for a 2.5 hour coastal walk, learning fishing and gathering techniques passed down from their ancestors that are still used today. You'll wade through mangrove and low-tide beach environments and experience firsthand how the local Aboriginal people live off the land. After the walk, you'll head to Mossman Gorge Centre for a delicious local lunch followed by a traditional welcome to country smoke ceremony. You'll then be taken into the rainforest of Mossman Gorge itself for an interpretive walk. Meander along paths and elevated boardwalks immersed in green foliage and learn more about the intrinsic link between the local Kuku Yalanji people and the rainforest.
