Great ways to embrace the cold this winter

by Lauren Ashton

Have you ever watched Game of Thrones and lusted after Jon Snow’s black feather and fur number and thought to yourself, “I could totally rock that with a pair of ankle boots”? No? Just me? Well in any case, if you’re a cold weather lover and prefer to get your coat on than your sweat on, keep reading.

Apart from fun hats and farewelling frizzy locks, Winter has a lot to offer from a fun perspective. And let’s face it; the cooler months in Australia are pretty mild, so it won’t stop you from doing most things. So let’s take a look at some other options for having fun without the sun.

Rug up, we’re going on an adventure!

Winter is the perfect time to get out and explore. There are so many experience options for the cool weather. You can get in touch with nature with a horse riding experience or a trip to the Blue Mountains. And one of the biggest drawcards for people living by the coast in winter is the seasonal whale migration. Find a spot on a cliff or jump on a chartered whale watching cruise to appreciate these gentle giants of the sea.

Carbohydrates rate when the sun hibernates

Get your gourmet on without fear of bloat! Winter means layers – scarves, coats and what I like to affectionately refer to as my “eating pants”. There’s no fear of a post-dinner muffin top in Winter because you can just cover it up and deal with it when Spring comes knocking. So make the most of the help you get from the wardrobe in winter, and check out a gourmet dining experience this weekend. If you prefer to drink your way to warmth check out a whiskey and cheese experience, or warm the cockles of your heart with chocolate making (or tasting)!

If an open fire is what you desire…

If you prefer turtlenecks over sun decks, then cosy up next to a crackling fire this winter and retreat by the heat with a getaway. Whether you’re after romance, luxury or you’re up for roughing it with a cold weather camping experience, we can sort you out.

Snow bunny not beach bum?

Rather build a snowman than a sand castle? Then check out some of these skiing and snow experiences in NSW and Victoria. Work up an appetite and then kick back with some après action in the afternoon. Ahh, winter you saucy minx; we knew you had it in you.
