Home date night ideas to keep the romance alive

by Brittany Wheeler

Have the COVID-19 restrictions put a dampener on your love life? While some of your favourite date nights might be on hold for now, it shouldn’t stop you from keeping the fires of romance alive with your partner. In fact, it’s more important than ever to take a break from the stress of the current health situation and nurture your relationships. So, ditch the pyjamas, put on some real clothes and prepare for the iso date night of your dreams with one of these incredible ideas…

Turn your home into a restaurant
While some restaurants have reopened for dine-in service, it’s proving tough to get a booking with the 10-person rule – or you still might not feel comfortable doing so – so we suggest you transform your home into a restaurant. Roll out the white tablecloth, set out your best crockery and light a few candles. One of our team members upped the ante with fairy lights, a romantic Spotify playlist and a fake fireplace video playing on the TV over a 3 course dinner.
Bring the cinema experience to your lounge room
Take Netflix and chill to the next level by turning your lounge room into a real life movie theatre. Wrap some fairy lights around your TV, hook up surround sound, move the lounge out of the way and lay out every pillow and doona you can find to make it the comfiest viewing possible. Don’t forget the popcorn and Maltesers!
Get arty
What could be more romantic than painting your partner’s portrait? Set out some snacks, pour a glass of their favourite tipple and reconnect through a creative art session. It’s a great way to relax, unwind and take your mind off the outside world. RedBalloon also offers live classes and paint your pet sessions.

Organise a virtual cooking class
Perfect for those who are unable to see their partner due to restrictions or those who are doing long distance, surprise them with a virtual cooking night over Zoom. Send the ingredients to their door via their local grocer, email through the recipes and have fun cooking a romantic meal together. Once the dishes are ready, sit down with a glass of wine and enjoy your efforts together. And if you want to feel a little bit fancy, don your best dress under your apron and pop on some lipstick!
Glamping tent in backyard
Spend a night under the stars with backyard camping

Do you and your other half love camping and the great outdoors? Try to get them out of the house for an hour or 2 and set up a tent and fire pit in the backyard. Lay out a picnic rug or grab 2 chairs and reconnect over a cheese platter and a bottle of wine. Score some extra brownie points with marshmallows or smores.

Those in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast can hire the glamping tent pictured here or Sydneysiders can opt for 7 day tent hire here.
