What's Included?

  • Cultural experience with Manuel Pamkal
  • Painting style demonstration
  • Take home your own artwork
  • Fire lighting
  • Spear throwing

Situated at the Top Didj and Art Gallery just outside of Katherine, this cultural experience gives you the unique opportunity to interact with Top End Aboriginal artist, Manuel Pamkal. After he plays a traditional welcoming tune on the didgeridoo, gain insight into his culture as you discuss traditions from tribal life, language, his own family tree and Aboriginal contemporary life. Manuel will then teach you the technique of Rarrk painting before you pick up a brush and paint your own artwork to take home as a souvenir. Following this, you'll have the opportunity to participate in the ancient craft of lighting a fire by rubbing two extraordinary sticks together, as well as a spear throwing session. After the hands-on activities, feel free to look through the Aboriginal Art Gallery and mingle with the resident joey wallabies that tend to hang around.
