Some days call for something more satisfying than a deep breath. A smash room experience gives you a safe space, a pile of breakable objects, and a selection of weapons such as baseball bats, sledgehammers and golf clubs to work through whatever needs working through. It is chaotic, cathartic, and genuinely a lot of fun. Whether you are burning off stress, celebrating a milestone, or just looking for a completely unique experience with friends, a rage room session delivers.
What happens in a smash room?
You suit up in protective gear i.e., overalls, gloves, and a face shield and enter a dedicated smash room stocked with items ready to be destroyed. Think glasses, plates, electronics, and other breakable objects. You pick your weapon and go to town. Sessions typically run 20–30 minutes.
Most venues let you choose your weapon of choice from a selection. Sledgehammers for maximum destruction. Baseball bats for classic satisfaction. Golf clubs if you want to feel like you are teeing off on something that deserves it.
Where are smash rooms available?
RedBalloon has smash room experiences in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast. Session prices start from around $50 for solo sessions, with group and family options available.
Looking for other ways to let off steam? Axe throwing is another high-energy option that is satisfying in a completely different way. Or if you want something more physical, check out escape rooms for a mental challenge that works off energy differently.
Smash rooms for groups and events
Rage rooms work brilliantly as a group activity. They are popular for birthdays, bucks and hens events, team bonding days, and breakups (the gift that genuinely helps). Many venues can accommodate groups, and some offer custom packages with additional items to smash.
Smash rooms as a gift
It is one of the more original gift ideas going around, and people love it precisely because it is so unexpected. Gift vouchers are available for solo sessions and group bookings. A great pick for anyone who could use a proper release.
Is it safe?
Yes. All protective gear is provided and mandatory. Operators brief participants before sessions and the rooms are designed specifically for this purpose. You are not going to hurt yourself, that is the whole point.
What can you actually smash?
Items vary by venue but typically include glassware, ceramics, electronics, and other everyday breakables. Some venues let you bring your own items for an additional fee, great if you have something specific in mind.
Is there a minimum age?
Most venues require participants to be 18 or over for standard sessions. Some offer family sessions with a lower age limit for children accompanied by an adult. Check individual listings for specific requirements.
