Departing from Melbourne, you will journey east into the stunning low mountain range known as the Dandenong Ranges for an enchanting ride on the century-old steam train, Puffing Billy. Marvel at Mother Nature at its finest, untouched and wild, as you wind through the colonial tracks from Belgrave to Menzies Creek. Characterised by towering rainforests and beautiful fern gullies, the region is truly a sight to see. Be sure to indulge in your childhood fantasy and dangle your arms and legs out of the iconic open-sided carriages, enjoying the fresh wind in your hair. After a breathtaking ride, stop over at the Sherbrooke forest and savour delicious Devonshire tea and scones.

You will then make your way to Healesville Sanctuary, where you'll spend the afternoon wandering the grounds and meeting some of your favourite Aussie icons. Home to over 200 native animals, you'll get up close to platypus, koalas, kangaroos, wombats, dingoes and more. There is plenty to see and do at the Sanctuary, such as the birds of prey, 'Spirits of the Sky' presentation, where you'll feel the power of these majestic birds as they swoop overhead and many other interactive shows. Return back to Melbourne in the early evening.

Session Length

  • This experience is approximately 10 hours in duration
  • Available Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
  • Departs from Melbourne at 7:45am and returns at 5:30pm

  • There is no space on the bus for strollers, prams, suitcases or large backpacks

Once this experience has been confirmed, changes are at the discretion of the experience provider and arranged directly with them, according to this policy:

  • Cancellation within seven days of departure will result in a 50% loss of the ticket price
  • Cancellation, failure to board or transfer within 48 hours of departure will result in full fare forfeiture
