What's Included?

  • 4 hours of caving fun - intermediate course
  • Transfers included
  • Picnic lunch is provided

On the day of your experience we will either pick you up from Melbourne or meet you at Jindavick (at The Jindi Caf). From Jindavick we will take you up a winding 4WD dirt road to the secluded car park to the cave site. Once at the car park we will give you a safety briefing and everyone will wear their caving gear and may help carry some caving equipment to the site. To begin the adventure you will walk to the cave site for about 30 minutes and then abseil into the cave system. Feel the excitement build as you descend into this wondrous underground world.

In these caverns under the earth you will find phosphorous worms and a gentle stream that meanders its way through granite boulders that are as big as dinosaur eggs! This unique "live" granite boulder cave system is one of very few that are located in Victoria. Within the rocks you will be able to see the story of historical land formation. During this caving adventure you will spend much of your time climbing up and down this spectacular system that has eroded into the landscape. With two entry and exit points and about three different levels to the cave system, there’s so much to explore!

Session Length

This experience generally takes place once a month on the weekend. However we will make arrangements for alternate dates with groups of three or more people. We get to Jindavick at 10am and leave at 3-3.30pm, arriving in Melbourne around 4.30-5pm. You will be caving/hiking for approximately four hours.

Guidelines

This experience is suitable for people who have some experience abseiling, rock climbing or caving. You will also need to have a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility and feel comfortable in the dark and in spaces that you might have to crawl through. There is a 30 minute walk along bush tracks from the car park to the caving site and return. We follow environmental guidelines and keep our impact to a minimum.

Child: 10-18 years old

Numbers on the Day

The price quoted is for one person. There will be a minimum of two and a maximum of 12 participants on the day. We operate with high staff ratios and small group numbers as per Australian industry standards (AAS) and Good Practice Guides.

Weather

Caving takes place underground and is therefore not usually affected by the weather. In the case of extreme weather conditions such as Total Fire Ban days and severe weather storm warnings for the area, we may need to reschedule your experience for a later date. It is in a very remote area. The water levels of each cave system are checked by a guide before the group enters.

Dress Code

Please wear comfortable shoes with good grip and old clothes that offer protection from mud and rocky surfaces–long-sleeved shirts and long pants. You also need to bring a complete change of clothes as you will get wet while caving. Helmets, head torches and safety equipment will be provided. We also provide some protective clothing, but may not have every size.
