This caving adventure is perfect for anyone who has had some experience caving, abseiling or rock climbing. You will be caving in the Labertouche Caves, just 90 minutes outside of Melbourne. Explore this unique granite boulder cave system and discover the secrets of an underground maze.
On the day of your experience we will either pick you up from Melbourne or meet you at Bunyip. From Bunyip we will take you up a winding 4WD dirt road to the secluded cave site. Once at the caving site we will give you a safety briefing and you will prepare and put on your caving equipment. To begin the adventure you will abseil into the cave system. Feel the excitement build as you descend into this wondrous underground world.
In these caverns under the earth you will find phosphorous worms and a gentle stream that meanders its way through granite boulders that are as big as dinosaur eggs! This unique granite boulder cave system is one of very few that are located in Victoria. Within the rocks you will be able to see the story of historical land formation. During this caving adventure you will spend much of your time climbing up and down this spectacular system that has eroded into the landscape. With two entry and exit points and about three different levels to the cave system, there’s so much to explore!
This experience generally takes place once a month on the weekend. However we will make arrangements for alternate dates with groups of three or more people. We get to Bunyip at 10am and leave at 3pm, arriving in Melbourne around 5pm. You will be caving for approximately four hours.
This experience is suitable for people who have some experience abseiling, rock climbing or caving. You will also need to have a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility and feel comfortable in the dark and in spaces that you might have to crawl through
Child: 10-18 years old
The price quoted is for one person. There will be a minimum of two and a maximum of 12 participants on the day. We operate with high staff ratios and small group numbers as per the Adventure Activity Standards.
Caving takes place underground and is therefore not usually affected by the weather. In the case of extreme weather conditions we may need to reschedule your experience for a later date. The water levels of each cave system are checked by a guide before the group enters.
Please wear comfortable shoes with good grip and old clothes that offer protection from mud and rocky surfaces–long-sleeved shirts and long pants. You also need to bring a complete change of clothes as you will get wet while caving. Helmets, head torches and safety equipment will be provided.
You will be required to sign a waiver and fill out a medical form prior to participating in this experience. A picnic lunch will be provided on the day.
