On this two day adventure, you'll revel in nature at its most diverse as you drive along the iconic Great Ocean Road. After spending a night in the township of Forrest, rise with the sun to embark on a kayaking adventure on Lake Elizabeth and discover Australia's most elusive animal, the platypus!
Day One:
Discover the breathtaking natural beauty of one of the most scenic locations in Australia, the Great Ocean Road, on this two-day adventure. The Great Ocean Road snakes along the southwest coast of Victoria, boasting incredibly diverse natural scenery and picture-perfect views. Departing Melbourne at 6:15am, you are bound inland to make a quick pit stop at the town of Colac to stretch your legs. The first attraction of the day is the London Bridge, a rigged natural arch formation which is the result of thousands of years of erosion. Soak up the sweeping views of the spectacular Southern Ocean as you learn more about tragic fate of the structure. You will continue winding down the picturesque road stopping at Port Campbell, the Loch Ard Gorge, Razorback, the Island Archway and the infamous 12 Apostles. Be left feeling awe-struck as you explore and embrace the magic of each destination. Remember to bring your camera as there will be countless photo opportunities along the way!
Continue towards Otway Forest, through to Lavers Hill for lunch and then stopping at Kennett River, which is said to be one of the best places in Australia to see koalas in the wild. Keep your eyes peeled and catch a glimpse of these cute furry creatures as you walk through the eucalyptus forest. The final sightseeing stop of the day is the coastal town of Lorne. Here, wander through the town and have a refreshing dip in the sea. You will then head inland to the small rural township of Forrest where you will reside for the night.
Day Two:
Wake up before sunrise and head to Lake Elizabeth for an incredible canoe tour to discover Australia’s shy native, the platypus! Lake Elizabeth is hidden deep in the Otways and was formed by a landslide more than 50 years ago. Sit back and embrace the serenity of this secluded area as you paddle along the calm pristine waters on the lookout for a rare chance to spot the elusive platypus in its natural habitat. After a surreal experience, head back to Forrest for breakfast. Your next stop of the day is the Californian Redwood Plantation, a dense forest canopy home to hundreds of trees, reaching heights up to 60 metres. Completely immerse yourself in nature as you explore this unique and enchanting forest. Your final stop of the tour is Hopetoun Falls. Soak up the spray as the falls plummet 30 metres in the river below. After an incredible two day adventure exploring nature at its finest, it is time to head back to Melbourne. You will arrive at approximately 4pm.
