Join us for a kayak tour around Adelaide and discover shipwrecks in the Ship's Graveyard Maritime Heritage Trail and meander through the mangrove lined channels around Garden Island. If you're lucky, you might even spot some of the resident dolphins on this tour.

Explore Adelaide’s own dolphin sanctuary and shipwreck heritage trail around Garden Island by kayak.

We will take you through wonderful mangrove lined creeks and see a wealth of bird life and sea creatures along with shipwrecks. There are over 25 shipwrecks scattered around this area. Some were grand sailing ships others were tugs or barges each with its own unique history including one of the very first iron built ships in the world.

This half day trip is ideal for families and people who just want to relax and soak up the heritage this area has to offer. The lush forest of Grey Mangroves provides a haven for extensive bird and sea life.

Located only 25 minutes from Adelaide CBD at Garden Island it makes it easy access for a day which is out of the ordinary.

Tours run from Spring to late Autumn and are conducted in double sea kayaks, which are easy to paddle, stable and very comfortable.

Session Length

This experience is approximately 3.5 hours in duration. We operate on weekends from Spring to late Autumn and on some weekdays during the school holidays.

Guidelines:

Minimum age is 12. You must have a reasonable level of fitness, i.e., you must be able to walk briskly for 15 minutes with out being out of breath.

Numbers:

We operate with a minimum of 6 people in the group.

Spectators:

Not suitable for spectators.

Weather:

All adventure activities are outdoor based and are therefore subject to weather. When the weather conditions is such that it may incur additional risk beyond what is acceptable then the experience shall be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by A very enjoyable morning. This was a well organised experience. Our guide, Rowan, carefully presented both safety issues and kayaking skill techniques in a relaxed, but still serious way. Our time on the water was most enjoyable with the weather turning up trumps. Kayaking thru the mangroves was great, with lots of birdlife, plus the need not to run ashore or decapitate oneself on the low branches. Then we paddled round two wrecks of sailing ships, with Rowan giving us some of their history. I think everyone had a very enjoyable excursion, with lots of laughter when the kayaks seemed to have a mind of their own. 29 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great way to discover another pocket of Adelaide Unique experience, great way to unwind and enjoy the waters. Also provides you with the opportunity to get up close to some of the shipwrecks in the area. Particularly enjoyed paddling through the mangroves, very relaxing just don't forget the aeroguard. I would recommend that everyone gives kayaking a go and this was a fantastic first experience. 27 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A fun experience! The kayaks were all ready and the instructor was well-organised and prepared. The trip around Garden Is and the shipwrecks was amazing. Peaceful, serene, interesting and stimulating too. Made me want to buy my own kayak! Really, really loved being visited by lots of dolphins - up close and personal! Would have loved a longer trip but my arms would have given out! Just long enough for a beginner but gave a taste for more!! 21 April 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by fantastic opportunity to explore a side of Adelaide that most don't know about! This tour was excellent. The guide was friendly and helpful and the sights we got to see were excellent. There weren't too many dolphins, but plenty of shipwrecks, and a little side trip up a canal that reminded me of kayaking the mangroves in Vietnam. I think this is a great trip to do for visitors to Adelaide and for locals too if you don't know this part of the world. Finished off with a good pub meal in Port Adelaide near the Wharf markets - what a great day. My only caution is to make sure you have good instructions to get to the starting point as it can be a little diffcult to find. 7 April 2013

We a really fun and interesting morning, kayaked with dolphins swimming alongside and beneath us, some history on the past in the Port River, experienced the mangroves and saw even more dolphins!! A really great and interesting experience and way to spend a morning, highly recommended!! 20 March 2013
